The hadronic decays of the τ lepton can be used to determine the effective charge ατ(m τ 2,) for a hypothetical τ lepton with a mass in the range 0<m τ,<mτ. This definition provides a fundamental definition of the QCD coupling at low mass scales. We study the behavior of α τ at low mass scales directly from first principles and without any renormalization-scheme dependence by looking at the experimental data from the OPAL Collaboration. The results are consistent with the freezing of the physical coupling at mass scales s = m τ 2, of order 1 GeV 2 with a magnitude α τ ∼0.9 ±0.1.

Abstract We show that the asymmetry in the fractional energy of charm versus anticharm jets produced in high energy diffractive photoproduction is sensitive to the interference of the Odderon ( C =−) and Pomeron ( C =+) exchange amplitudes in QCD. We predict the dynamical shape of the asymmetry in a simple model and estimate its magnitude to be of the order 15% using an Odderon coupling to the proton which saturates constraints from proton-proton vs. proton-antiproton elastic scattering. Measurements of this asymmetry at HERA could provide firm experimental evidence for the presence of Odderon exchange in the high energy limit of strong interactions.

Abstract. The asymmetry of strange-baryon production in Kp interactions at high energies is considered in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String Model. The contribution of the string-junction mechanism to the strange baryon production is analysed.

AbstractThe process of baryon production in Kp collisions at high energies is considered in the framework of the quark-gluon string model. The contribution of the string-junction mechanism to the strange-baryon production is analyzed. The results of numerical calculations are in reasonable agreement with the data on inclusive spectra of p, Λ, % MathType!MTEF!2!1!+-% feaafiart1ev1aaatCvAUfKttLearuqr1ngBPrgarmWu51MyVXgatC% vAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaeHbd9wDYLwzYbItLDharyavP1wz% ZbItLDhis9wBH5garqqtubsr4rNCHbGeaGqiVu0Je9sqqrpepC0xbb% L8F4rqqrFfpeea0xe9Lq-Jc9vqaqpepm0xbba9pwe9Q8fs0-yqaqpe% pae9pg0FirpepeKkFr0xfr-xfr-xb9adbaqaaeGaciGaaiaabeqaam% aaeaqbaaGcbaGafu4MdWKbaebaaaa!3C58!
