Gheorghe Hurduzeu; Cristian Kevorchian; Camelia Gavrilescu; Raluca Hurduzeu

Abstract The climate changes represent one of the major challenges of our century-a complex area in which we must improve our knowledge and understanding in order to take immediate and correct action to address efficiently, in terms of costs, the challenges of the climate changes. The processes and the natural phenomena, though cyclic are accidental. Even though they appear as a necessity in the evolution of the system, they manifest themselves at random, undergoing, from this point of view, the hazard, the unpredictible. The agriculture is a major user of the agrometeorological information, their capitalization in connection to other types of specialized information (agricultural, technologic, economic. etc.) is achieved in order to prevent and reduce the risk generated by meteorological phenomena and to set strategies for sustainable development.

Abstract Following the evolution of the Romanian agri-food sector and rural area after more than two decades from December 1989 and at seven years from Romanias accession to the EU, and investigating it in a large enough time period for the consolidation of Romanias agrarian structures, taking into consideration the too slow progress of the overall national agri-food system, the still large discrepancies and non-convergence between our countrys agriculture and that of the other EU countries, the existence of large severe rural poverty areas, as well as the precarity of Romanias populations food security, in the present paper, the Institute of Agricultural Economics of the Romanian Academy proposes the agri-food and rural development strategy of Romania. The rural strategy establishes the guidelines for the agri-food sector and rural area sustainable development, as one of the basic components of resuming economic growth in Romania, as conditioned by: ensuring national food security and guaranteeing food safety for Romanias population; the natural, material and human resources of Romanias agriculture, and the ecological suitability of Romanias agricultural resources to supply high quality agri-food products on the domestic and foreign markets.
