Implementation of European Regulation of the Financial Sector: Consequences for the Consumer Protection

Both MiFID and the new Consumer Credit Directive aim at ensuring increased protection to consumers, who invest or take up credits. This is an essential element in the development of a single European financial market. In this chapter it is shown that the national ways of implementation of the directives as either public law or private law may affect the consumer protection, as the way of implementation can affect the application and the interpretation of the rules.
