Summary The aim of this paper is to investigate the utilization of critical thinking in different applications and in different types of learning environments. The art of analytical reading includes the same skills as those involved in the art of problem solving and communicating. These skills are essential to the process of filtering, assimilating, and finding new meaning in the torrents of information faced daily. Described are a problem-solving environment and Web communication systems, with the suggestion that the Web tools have not yet come up to faculty expectations for teaching and learning.

The Internet promises access to a diversity of minds in their quest for knowledge. But if we continue applying traditional models of production and teaching to new technical possibilities, we cancel out their potential innovation dimensions and run the risk of bolting classroom-based practices onto a different delivery system. Instead, we should be looking at new methods of presentation and creation of interactive learning materials. In this paper we focus on three models of production and the challenges of developing interactive learning materials.

TRANSFORMING MULTIPLE STILL IMAGES of a scene into seamless interactive 360 panoramic movies and “super-wide” angle panorama still pictures is now part of the toolbox of most Web page developers. With Spin Panorama 2.0, an inexpensive software package, anyone can create high impact panoramic images in four easy steps. This article covers the basic photographic steps involved and reviews the functionality of Spin Panorama in making a panorama. Panning the QuickTime panorama creates the sensation of spinning around in a virtual environment.

Multimedia technology is at the point where most computer screens now look similar to broadcast communications media sources. One of the differences between todays and yesterdays computer displays is the widespread use of color photography. It is now cheaper to publish color photographs electronically than it is to print them on paper. With the capability of computers and data networks to handle color graphics, color photographs and journal illustrations are turning up on the World Wide Web and in the lecture halls.
