Triplet superconductors: Josephson effect in quasi-one-dimensional systems

Cawley Daniel Vaccarella; Roderick D. Duncan; C. A. R. Sá de Melo

Abstract We show that the Josephson effect between triplet superconductors is sensitive to the relative orientation of the d -vectors across the junction. In addition, we point out that the temperature, angular and magnetic field dependencies of the Josephson effect can help distinguish between different order parameter symmetries. We discuss coherent and incoherent tunneling processes, and the role of surface bound states within the framework of non-local lattice Bogoliubov–de Gennes equations. We analyse several weak spin–orbit coupling order parameters candidates (p x , p y , p z and f xyz ) for quasi-one-dimensional superconductors and discuss the connection with very recent bicrystal junction experiments, where the I – V characteristics and differential conductance were measured.

Magnetic field induced singlet to triplet phase transition in organic superconductors

Cawley Daniel Vaccarella; C. A. R. Sá de Melo

New experimental results in organic quasi-one-dimensional superconductors suggest the existence of triplet superconductivity in high magnetic fields. When there is competition between singlet and triplet pairing, the superconductors have a singlet phase at low magnetic fields and a triplet phase at high magnetic fields. These two phases are separated by a first order phase transition line where the spin susceptibility changes from smaller values (singlet case) to larger normal state-like values (triplet case) at low temperatures.
