We provide an overview of diapriid wasps associated with ants in Argentina and the diversity of interactions they have developed with their hosts. As a result, we report 16 species of nine genera of Diapriinae, two new geographic distributions, three new association records, illustrations, and photographs. We highlight myrmecophile symphylic species, with a high degree of integration with the host ants, adaptation being morphological and behavioral. A table with diapriid species and ant hosts is given.

Seven new species of Gymnopria Loiacono from Brazil are described and illustrated: Gymnopria clavata, G. coriacea, G. distinguenda, G. elongata, G. masneri, G. minima and G. pilosa. A generic redescription of Gymnopria and a key to species are given. A cladistic analysis of the nine known species, using Szelenyiopria Fabritius to root the tree, resulted in four most parsimonious cladograms, the preferred is (Szelenyiopria (G. masneri ((G. minima - G. elongata) ((G. distinguenda - G. clavata) (G. pilosa (G. coriacea (G. lucens - G. pampeana))))))).

Telenomus parides Loiácono et Margaría sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on specimens reared from the eggs of Parides ascanius (Cramer). Parides ascanius is a threatened papilionid, which is endemic to the restingas of the Atlantic Forest of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The new Telenomus species is gregarious endoparasitoid and belongs to the Telenomus californicus species complex.

Abstract Parasitoids naturally attacking stink bug (Hemiptera: Coreidae and Pentatomidae) eggs and interactions with their hosts were recorded on soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merril; Fabales: Fabaceae) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp.; Fabales: Fabaceae) host plants in Brazil. Egg masses of stink bugs collected from plant structures were observed daily until emergence of either parasitoids or bugs. Stink bugs were parasitized by 8 species of egg parasitoids: Trissolcus urichi Crawford, Trissolcus teretis Johnson, Trissolcus bodkini Crawford, Telenomus podisi Ashmead, Phanuropsis semiflaviventris Girault (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae), Neorileya flavipes Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae), Ooencyrtus anasae (Ashmead) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae), and Anastatus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae). Trissolcus urichi, Te. podisi, O. anasae, and N. flavipes parasitized eggs of 2 or more species of stink bugs, and Tr. urichi and Te. podisi were the most generalist. Phanuropsis semiflaviventris, Tr. teretis, Tr. bodkini, and Anastatus sp. showed specialist behavior, because each of them parasitized only 1 species of stink bug.

A redescription of the genus Bruchopria and its two species, B. hexatoma Kieffer (female and male) and B. pentatoma Kieffer (male only) is presented. New record for B. hexatoma from Argentina is provided. Some aspects of diapriid biology with emphasis on their myrmecophilic evidence and association with ants are discussed. Scanning photographs of morphological structures are included.

ABSTRACT Seven species of Baeus occur in the Neotropical and Andean regions: B. achaearaneus Loiácono, B. auraticeps Girault, B. kuscheli Ogloblin, B. latrodecti Dozier, B. metazygiae Loiácono et Margaría, B. platensis (Bréthes), and B. ventricosus Ogloblin. All of them are associated with spiders of the families Araneidae and Theridiidae. In this study, a new species of Baeus is described from egg sacs of Cyclosa morretes (Araneidae) collected in a natural reserve in São Paulo State, Brazil. The spider species is a new host for Baeus. We also evaluated the frequency of attacks and the impact of parasitism on the spider egg sacs.

ABSTRACT: A new species of Gryonella Dodd, 1914, is described and illustrated based on specimens from Brazil (Mato Grosso do Sul). Gryonella matogrossensis sp. nov. is similar to G. bruesi Dodd but can be distinguished mainly by its lighter color, rounded vertex, striated cheeks and large metanotal teeth. A key to the described species of Gryonella is provided. Taxonomic notes on the genus are included.

Caligo brasiliensis (C. Felder, 1862) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Morphinae: Brassolini) (Casagrande, 2004), is a common butterfly in southern Brazil. The larvae feed on leaves of Musa argentea L., Musa sapientum L., Musa parasidiaca L. (Musaceae), Hedychium coronarium Koen. (Zingiberaceae) and Euterpe edulis Mart. (Palmae) according to Silva (1907), Silva et al. (1968) and D’Abrera (1987). Caligo spp. larvae, sometimes, are even abundant enough to be considered as a pest on banana plantations (Hogue, 1993) but rarely reaching economic importance (Fancelli et al., 1998). Nevertheless, Malo and Willis (1961) suggested that Caligo eurilochus (Cramer, 1775), a very close species of C. brasiliensis, in the absence of effective natural biological control, could easily become a serious banana pest. Information about egg parasitoids of Caligo spp. is scanty. In banana plantations particularly, the attack of the trichogrammatid species related to Xenufens ruskini Girault, 1915 is recorded for C. eurilochus in Ecuador (Malo and Willis, 1961); Xenufens ruskini for Caligo memnon (C. Felder et R. Felder, 1867). In Honduras and Colombia the attack of the encyrtid Ooencyrtus caligo Noyes is the record for Caligo illioneus (Cramer, 1775) eggs (Noyes, 1985) and Ooencyrtus sp. in eggs collected in Costa Rica (Harrison, 1963). There is no record about Caligo brasiliensis egg parasitoids in literature. Johnson (1984) established eleven host-specific groups of Telenomus Haliday: T. tabanivorus from Diptera, T. californicus, T. arzamae, and T. dalmanni species group complex from Lepidoptera, T. floridanus, T. crassiclava, T. podisi, T. phymatae, T. laricis, T. nigricoxalis from Hemiptera, and T. longicornis with host unknown. From Brazil, several species of Telenomus californicus species group (Johnson, 1984) were recorded as endoparasitoids of lepidopteran eggs (Loiácono and Margaría, 2002).
