E-learning in life long education: A computational approach to determining listening comprehension ability

Cem Isik; Sümeyra Yılmaz

E-Learning is the use of telecommunication technology to deliver information for education and training and it is emerging as the new paradigm of modern education. Because of the increasing amount of technology integration in the learning environment, more and more studies focus on examining “how people learn with technology” This study was conducted to find out how computer assisted language learning contributes to learners’ ability to develop listening comprehension. The results revealed that learner computer anxiety, instructor attitude toward e-Learning, e-Learning course flexibility, e-Learning course quality, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and diversity in assessments are the critical factors affecting learners’ perceived satisfaction.

Analyzing the causalities between economic growth, financial development, international trade, tourism expenditure and/on the CO2 emissions in Greece

Cem Isik; Evangelia Kasimati; Serdar Ongan

ABSTRACT This paper investigates the dynamic causalities between economic growth, financial development, international trade, tourism expenditure and/on the CO2 emissions in Greece over the period of 1970–2014. For this purpose, the Zivot-Andrews unit root tests and the Autoregressive-Distributed Lag (ARDL) models were applied. The Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and the robustness of causality test results indicate that Greece’s economic growth, financial development, international trade, tourism expenditures, and CO2 emissions are co-integrated in the long run. The empirical findings show that economic growth, financial development, international trade, and tourism expenditures caused increases in Greece’s CO2 emissions. It should be noted that tourism, as a leading sector in the Greek economy, has serious negative environmental impacts for Greece in the long run. Therefore, the policy makers of Greece should strongly take into consideration this threat from the tourism sector as the whole Greek economy is dominated by this one sector.

The role of ICT in general economics teaching: an example from Turkey

Cem Isik; Sümeyra Yılmaz

This study aims at exploring the effects of ICT in education. Computers play a vital role in every field of our lives. They facilitate an audio-visual representation of information, thus making the process of learning interactive and interesting in education. Therefore, it is only but natural the role of computers in e-learning has been given a lot of prominence in the recent years. In many countries education system, preservation of information process and transfer is being set on computer surroundings and they are focused on e-learning programmes. E-learning plays a key role in the modern systems of education. E-learning has revolutionised the education industry. Our results show that computer assisted learning has many beneficial effects on learners.

E-Learning in Life Long Education

Cem Isik

E-Learning is the use of telecommunication technology to deliver information for education and training and it is emerging as the new paradigm of modern education. Because of the increasing amount of technology integration in the learning environment, more and more studies focus on examining ‘‘how people learn with technology’’ This study developed an integrated model with six dimensions: learners, instructors, courses, technology, design, and environment. The results revealed that learner computer anxiety, instructor attitude toward e-Learning, e-Learning course flexibility, e-Learning course quality, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and diversity in assessments are the critical factors affecting learners’ perceived satisfaction. Discussion is given related to these findings and the implications to e-learning in life long learning and also future research.
