Activity Theory as a Framework for Activity Taxonomy in HCI

María Lili Villegas Ramírez; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez; William Joseph Giraldo Orozco; Juan Manuel Gonzalez Calleros

In this article, the Activity Theory (AT) is analyzed to take it as a basis for the definition of an Activity classification Model of Interactive Systems called: Activity Taxonomy (ATx) for Interactive Systems. Our purpose is to use the ATx for: a. Set discussions about the effectiveness of the artifacts used in software engineering to specify the activity, b. The incorporation of the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) in the processes of software development, c. Definition of the minimum activity classifiers to specify interactive systems that promote HCI, d. Evaluation and integration of languages and/or software development processes, e. Promote normalization of the artifacts used in the specification of software, f. The specification of the execution models of interactive systems. This paper focuses specifically on b, c, d and f.

A Model for Collaborative Content Production in Digital Literacy Context

José Eder Guzmán Mendoza; Jaime Muñoz Arteaga; Javier Álvarez Rodríguez; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez

In order to achieve a knowledge society involves first to solve the problem of the digital divide. Overcoming the digital divide involves addressing three factors: infrastructure, digital literacy and content. This article describes an architectural model that addresses the digital divide from the factors digital literacy and digital content creation from the perspective of collaborative work. The proposed model is based on a strategy that combines collaborative work and the content digital production to facilitate the acquisition of digital skills to differentiated users.

Evaluating interactive systems from an emotional perspective

Yenny Méndez Alegría; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez; Antoni Granollers Saltiveri; J. Alfredo Sánchez Huitr

In this paper, we introduce a model that aims to provide guidelines that will strengthen the evaluation of interactive systems by assisting in the identification and analysis of emotions evoked by users during system usage. We briefly discuss related projects that have included emotions in the evaluation of interactive systems. The research presented here is a preliminary work towards the inclusion of emotions during the evaluation of interactive systems. Our model is presented including details of each of its phases. We discussed preliminary results of the application of the model to evaluating a Virtual Learning Environment. Our approach comprises four major phases: Selection of relevant emotions; analysis of relationships between emotions and interactive systems; selection of detection mechanisms; and application of evaluation methods.

Producer–Consumer Model of a Textbook for the Community of Human–Computer Interaction in Latin America

Jaime Muñoz Arteaga; Héctor Cardona Reyes; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez; Juan Manuel González-Calleros

This paper proposes a producer-consumer model in order to develop in a collaborative manner a human-computer interaction (HCI) textbook with professionals in Latin America. The model is composed of services to support the collaborative production of and access to an HCI textbook. The model is presented as an alternative solution to mitigate the current problem of lack of academic contents in the domain of HCI in Latin America. A case study presents the result of the use of an HCI e-book according to the proposed model. The book was used as an open textbook by several teachers and researchers from different Latin American Universities.

Verification and Validation Model for Short Serious Game Production

Arturo Barajas Saavedra; Francisco Álvarez Rodríguez; Jaime Muñoz Arteaga; René Santaolaya Salgado; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez; Julio Ariel Hurtado Alegria

Nowadays, serious games play an outstanding role in the adoption of competencies since they provide immersion, fun, motivation and a high level of engagement among user through the implementation of a phenomena based learning. The correct implementation is extremely important to ensure a high level of adoption of the competencies by the users of the games. The focus on this research is oriented to achieve the correct implementation of requirements through in the production of short serious games. Then, this article presents a model based upon requirements traceability and inspections to verify and validate the correct implementation of requirements and the successful production of quality short serious games.

Collaborative Production in Latin America of the Open Text Books in Human Computer Interaction

Jaime Muñoz Arteaga; Héctor Cardona Reyes; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez; Viviana Bustos Amador; Francisco Álvarez Rodríguez

The area of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) has acquired great importance in the last decade, its main objective is to increase the quality of interaction between the user and information technology. Constantly emerging technological changes and therefore there is a need for educational content and more research in the field of IHC, one of the main complications in Latin America is the access, availability, and cost of books in Spanish language. As a way of responding to this problematic this paper applies a collaborative production process of open textbooks and matching effort to teachers and researchers from Latin America to provide a textbook for IHC community in Spanish. Also seeks that they continue the sharing of experiences in the field of IHC to follow continuous improvement in production processes open textbooks at Latin America.

The State of HCI in Ibero-American countries

Toni Granollers i Saltiveri; César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez; María Paula González Azconegui

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a challenging discipline that is currently concerned with the design, implementation and evaluation of interactive systems for human use, as well as the study of major phenomena surrounding them. Indeed, interdisciplinary communities formed by scientists, university teachers and students, people coming from the industry and customers related to HCI are emerging in different parts of the world. In particular, this article overviews the HCI community in the Ibero-American context, which involves hundreds of millions of people working or studying in HCI, whose cultural background is primarily associated with the Spanish and Portuguese languages and cultures, regardless of ethnic and geographical differences. Our final goal is to improve the visibility of this particular HCI community, enhancing the self awareness of its members and their individual motivation and future exchanges.
