This paper considers the practical manufacturing environment of the hybrid flow shop (HFS) with non-identical machines in parallel. In order to significantly enhance the performance level of manufacturing, maintaining load balancing among parallel machines is very important. The aim of this paper is to minimize makespan with load balancing in a non-identical parallel machine environment by using hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA). In the HGA, the neighborhood search-based method is used together with genetic algorithm as local optimization method to balance the exploration and exploitation abilities. The representation of chromosome used in this paper is composed of two layers: allocation layer and sequencing layer, which can be encode and decoded easily. In generating initial population, a special constraint of load balancing between parallel machines is used to reduce the number of individuals. And particular crossover operation is used, which generates multiple offspring at a time, so that the efficiency of the algorithm can be well improved. At last, the proposed algorithm is tested on a benchmark, and numerical example shows good result.

To solve the permutation flowshop problem more effectively, a novel artificial immune particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm has been proposed. The new algorithm combined the biology immune system theory with particle swarm algorithm by the following phases. Firstly, the scheduling objective and constrain condition were served as antibodies while solutions was served as antigens. Secondly, the particles were encoded as workpiece processing sequence. Furthermore, a concentration selection strategy was adopted to maintain the particle diversity. Finally, comparing with genetic algorithm and PSO, case results showed that immune PSO algorithm not only optimized results and convergence velocity but also had a small fluctuation.

A new framework of decision-making is proposed in this paper to accommodate the application of quality function deployment (QFD) integrated with TRIZ. In the proposal framework, Ideal Final Result (IFR) oriented decision-making process is introduced for the innovation design process in order to select the best solution from alternatives which are generated by TRIZ and consistent with the laws of technical system evolution. Overall customer satisfaction oriented decision-making process is applied for the alternatives generated from both innovation design process and adaptive design process. The correlation matrix, which affects the weight of criteria, is modified according to the style of broken contradiction for the application of TRIZ. Meanwhile, triangular fuzzy numbers are utilized to deal with vagueness of human thought. Finally, an example is taken to show application of the framework.

It has considerably practical significance to apply Man-Machine-Environment System Engineering (MMESE) on large scale vessel throughout its whole life cycle. At present, there are not too many researches on this topic in China, but specific tasks refer to a really wide range while developing separately without guidance from the very top. From the views of vessel system, life cycle system of it and MMESE discipline system, the MMESE application system for vessel is constructed; based on it and System Engineering, the three dimension application model for vessel throughout its life cycle is brought forth; based on it and Concurrent Engineering, the concept and framework of MMESE Application System Engineering throughout Life Cycle of Large Scale Vessel (MLM) is finally developed, which plays an important role in conducting actual projects.

Traditional genetic algorithms put all the individuals in one population to cross and adopt the same set of evolutionary parameters and genetic operators to guide the evolution, which will easily lead to local convergence and poor searching efficiency. A multi evolutionary system co-exist genetic algorithm is developed to overcome the fluctuations of the whole evolution process through dividing individuals into several sub-populations according to the fitness value. Moreover, the improved algorithm prevents the early convergent and increases the diversity of individuals by supplying these sub-populations different evolutionary systems. The effectiveness and feasibility of the algorithm are verified by typical genetic algorithm test functions and an engineering case. The results show that the genetic algorithm has a good versatility, high convergence rate and solution precision.

This paper considers single-stage multi-parallel machines scheduling problems. A fuzzy scheduling model is developed with objective to minimize the makespan. In the scheduling model, the uncertainty of processing time is represented by triangular fuzzy number, and the credibility theory is used to assess fuzzy number. In the optimal scheduling searching process, we introduce matching theory to model the scheduling problem consider in this paper, and two heuristic rules are used to improve searching efficiency. At last, genetic algorithm is developed for solving the scheduling problem, and numerical example shows good result.

The ship-based helicopter is always dangling in the sea because of winds and waves. It is necessary to analyze and calculate the mooring of helicopter. In order to void the complex derivation of mathematical formulas, the parameterized finite element method (FEM) model about the ship-based helicopter body, mooring cable and mooring base is established with the software ADAMS. This model is used to calculate the mooring tension and optimize the locations of the mooring bases. In the various layouts of the mooring bases, the minimal mooring tension is the layout optimization object. After some added constraint conditions are considered, the mooring point coordinates are searched and calculated in the standard and nonstandard parking positions with subproblem approximation method. Through the comparison and analysis of the relative changing ratio of the position coordinates, the final optimization layout scheme is obtained.

The service in dining-room for the sailors is a very important issue in a luxury passenger liner which affects the work’s performance, so as well as the ship’s. There has not too much research about this topic in China right now. A method to simulate and analyze the dining-room servicing mode which was based on the discrete event system using the software QUEST has been brought out, and used to estimate a design project by analyzing the six factors which affect the servicing mode while releasing a final implement suggestion.

It is a complex but important issue to have a shower for the sailors in a luxury passenger liner whose working and living staff are all to be held in a closed environment. It is hard to decide what kind of showering mode can satisfy the sailors’ showering need, as well as using discrete event theory to handle it because of the mass of people and their behavior’s randomicity. A method based on the theory of discrete event to simulate the showering mode in the ship has been brought out by using the software of QUEST, and the design of the bath system of the ship has been proved to be with usability after simulations. What factors and how they affect the performance of the showering system have been found. At last, an implementation suggestion has been brought forward.
