A method to build information systems engineering process metamodels

Charlotte Hug; Agnès Front; Dominique Rieu; Brian Henderson-Sellers

Several process metamodels exist. Each of them presents a different viewpoint of the same information systems engineering process. However, there are no existing correspondences between them. We propose a method to build unified, fitted and multi-viewpoint process metamodels for information systems engineering. Our method is based on a process domain metamodel that contains the main concepts of information systems engineering process field. This process domain metamodel helps selecting the needed metamodel concepts for a particular situational context. Our method is also based on patterns to refine the process metamodel. The process metamodel can then be instantiated according to the organisations needs. The resulting method is represented as a pattern system.

Qualitative evaluation of cultural heritage information modeling techniques

Charlotte Hug; Cesar Gonzalez-Perez

In this article we evaluate three modeling techniques coming from information system engineering to represent cultural heritage domain concepts. Evaluations of the modeling techniques were performed by carrying out experiments with cultural heritage specialists. The first experiment consisted in evaluating UML class diagrams and a conceptual graph. The second experiment evaluated a value cluster modeling approach. These qualitative evaluations were conducted using focus groups composed of cultural heritage specialists. We evaluated the perceived ease of use, the perceived usefulness, and the intention to use of the three techniques (UML class diagrams, conceptual graphs, and the value cluster approach). Thanks to these evaluations, we will be able to propose a combined approach using value cluster modeling and UML class diagraming techniques to describe cultural heritage information.

Ingénierie des processus : Une approche à base de patrons

Charlotte Hug; Agnès Front; Dominique Rieu

An agricultural spreader device for spreading seed and other granular material, the spreader being constituted by modular assemblies which are attachable to a central carrier assembly mountable on an agricultural machine such as a tractor. Each modular assembly includes a cylinder supported by rollers, the amount of material spread being determined by the adjustment of the cylinder speed. The lower opening of a distribution hopper is located in front of the cylinder top.

Qualitative evaluation of a method for information systems engineering processes

Charlotte Hug; Nadine Mandran; Agnès Front; Dominique Rieu

This paper presents a qualitative evaluation of a method for building information systems engineering processes. It includes the description of the evaluated method, the profiles of the selected subjects and the set up protocol. We also describe the results that allowed us to improve the method.

FASMM: Fast and Accessible Software Migration Method

Louis Forite; Charlotte Hug

With the fast changes of development technologies, organizations often need to migrate their software from a source to a target technology that could comprise a shift in programming paradigm. This operation is not easy and requires precision and structuring. However, in small companies, due to lack of resources (workforce, time, budget...) the migration phase is frequently quickly done and not necessarily in an optimized way: functionalities are not implemented properly, the new architecture is loose and knowledge gained during the migration is not capitalized. This paper presents a method to guide developers in the migration of software functionalities based on model driven engineering techniques and allows capitalizing knowledge as transformation rules, to enable their reuse in future migration projects. This method was built from a case study in a French company that produces software training and support for critical applications.
