Simultaneous large array 3D-VSP and full azimuth 3D surface seismic acquisition: A case history of igneous rock reservoir exploration

Summary Measuring the formation and distribution of a volcanic reservoir is extremely complicated. This is especially because rapid lateral changes of deep seismic reflections make it difficult to perform continuous event tracing and the identification inside reservoirs. Volcanic rock exploration is also a difficult exploration task throughout the world. Therefore, new prospecting methods should be applied for solving the problem of refined volcanic reservoir description. 3D-VSP can give high-resolution images around a well, and some direct reservoir information can be obtained as well, while full azimuth surface seismics can reveal the fracture information through a multiple-azimuth image difference. With the above considerations, BGP has conducted an integrated large array 3D-VSP and full azimuth 3D surface seismic survey aimed at a volcanic target in the Da Qing oil field. This paper will introduce a method for simultaneous VSP-surface seismic acquisition and processing, analyze the processing results, and show the preliminary applicability of VSP-surface seismic associating exploration in igneous rock exploration.
