Analysis of Source Codes Created by Beginners in Programming Education

Toyoshiro Nakashima; Chieko Matsuyama; Naohiro Ishii

A gas-operated motor adapted to be driven by gas evaporated from a reservoir of liquefied carbon dioxide or the like. In order to overcome the problems generally associated with such motors due to the cooling of the gas as it evaporates from the liquid state in the reservoir and expands in the working chamber(s) of the motor, a chamber holding a substance which undergoes a change of state to release heat to the gas in operation of the motor is included. More particularly this chamber is located to be in heat conductive relationship both with the working chamber(s) of the motor and with a tortuous passage through which gas is supplied to the working chamber(s) and wherein superheating of the gas prior to its introduction to the working chamber(s) takes place. The creation of animations was made as a subject of university programming course in order to make students understand the process of program creation, and tackle programming with interest. However programs created by students had many problems. In this paper, the formats and composition of the programs were investigated. It was clarified by the analysis of source codes that there were a lot of problems related to such matters as how to use indentation, how to apply comments and functions etc. in the programming for the format and the composition of the source codes.

Animation creation in computer software programming education and its evaluation

Chieko Matsuyama; Toyoshiro Nakashima; Naohiro Ishii

In general, mathematical subjects are used for computer software programming education in universities. In this case, many students often lose interest in computer software programming because the students have the preconception that it is difficult for them to make program using mathematical knowledge. In particular beginners at the programming tend to lose their interest. Therefore it has been pointed out that subjects who do not require mathematical knowledge should be used as much as possible. In this paper, the authors have tried to create animation generated by the programming instead of mathematical subjects by using C language that is used in many fields. The authors discuss about improvements of the interest of students for programming that is to make animation by programs in a programming class and refer to its effects.

Effect of Touch-Typing Practices in Computer Literacy and Evaluation of Its Continuity

Chieko Matsuyama; Toyoshiro Nakashima; Naohiro Ishii

In the computer literacy with a PC at the Japanese university, it was clarified that a touch-typing skill was considerably improved by the touch-typing practice which was given to the first-year students for 15 to 20 minutes. These data was accumulated for seven years from 2002. In addition, it is discussed about how much change in achievement degree was observed for the students who continued this practice to the second-year from the first-year. Furthermore, the authors mentioned the relations between the actual values measured from the touch-typing practices and the self-evaluation of the effect made by the students themselves.
