Recently, there has been a dramatic proliferation in the number of blogs; however, little is published about what motivates people to participate in blog activities. Based on the theory of reasoned action, we developed a model involving technology acceptance, knowledge sharing and social influences. A survey of 212 blog participants found strong support for the model. The results indicated that ease of use and enjoyment, and knowledge sharing (altruism and reputation) were positively related to attitude toward blogging, and accounted for 78% of the variance. On the other hand, social factors (community identification) and attitude toward blogging significantly influenced a blog participants intention to continue to use blogs. Together they explain 83% of the variance of intention to blog.

Purpose – Blogging has become part of a consumers decision making process when shopping online; however, the understanding of blog recommendations effect on consumer purchase decision is still vague. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the blog readers trusting belief in the blogger is significant in relation to the perceived usefulness of the bloggers recommendations; and how the blog readers perceptions influence his/her attitude and purchasing behavior online. The moderating effect of bloggers reputation on readers’ purchasing intentions is also tested.Design/methodology/approach – Based on various theories, a model was proposed in this study. A survey involving 327 blog readers as participants was analyzed in the empirical study to investigate whether the usefulness of bloggers’ recommendations and trusting beliefs toward blogger had influence on consumers’ attitudes and behavioral intentions toward online shopping.Findings – The results indicated that perceived usefulness of blogger...

Confirmation was positively related to perceived value and satisfaction.Free alternatives to paid apps negatively affects a users intention to purchase.Increasing value-for-money will increase intention to purchase apps.Intention to purchase apps was different between users and potential users. While many reports predict huge growth potential for the mobile application (app) market, little is known about user intention to purchase paid apps. This study amends the expectation confirmation model and incorporates app rating, free alternatives to paid apps and habit as belief-related constructs to predict user behavior. The proposed model was empirically evaluated using a survey of 507 respondents about their perceptions of app usage. The results indicated that confirmation was positively related to perceived value and satisfaction. Value-for-money, app rating and free alternatives to paid apps were found to have a direct impact on intention to purchase paid apps. Specifically, there was a significant difference between potential users and actual users. The results may provide further insights into app marketing strategies.

Mobile applications such as multimedia messaging service (MMS) promises a new way to share rich content of information that enhances its users’ personal connectivity experiences as well as productivity. However, the adoption of MMS seems to be unexpectedly slow (Bonte, 2008). As mobile phones become ever smarter (or complex) in functions, understanding the adoption behaviors of complex mobile services such as MMS becomes utterly important to both practitioners and academic. This paper introduces a multi-facet model for MMS adoption by integrating the well-known behavioral models such as TAM and TPB with other factors including intrinsic motivation, personal innovativeness and critical mass. An internet survey of 213 subjects with prior experience in MMS usage found strong support for the proposed model. The results show that the adopter’s attitude toward MMS is the most dominating factor in shaping his/her intention to use MMS, followed by subjective norm and perceived behavioral control. Moreover, the results further suggest adopter’s intrinsic motivation is the most important motivating factor for attitude toward using MMS. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.

ABSTRACT The Internet of things (IoT) is seen as a potentially effective means of integrating multiple technologies to improve the quality of life. However, little attention has been paid to factors that may have a significant effect on a user’s intention to use the IoT services. This study applies the value-based adoption model to examine the influences of benefits (i.e. perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment) and sacrifices (i.e. perceived privacy risk and perceived costs) on the user’s perceived value of and intention to use the IoT services. A structural equation modeling approach is applied to a survey of 489 IoT users, with results indicating that perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment significantly affect behavioral intention through perceived value. Moreover, perceived privacy risk also plays a key factor in determining IoT adoption. The implications of this study are discussed.

ABSTRACT Social networking app providers have begun to extend their business scope to “online to offline” (O2O) commerce. While most past studies have focused on user adoption of particular social networking apps, little work has examined predictors of user loyalty to social networking O2O apps. This study perceived value as a key multidimensional determinant of online and offline satisfaction as well as loyalty. A model is proposed and empirically evaluated using survey data collected from 200 O2O social networking app users concerning their perceptions of such apps. The results indicate that customer loyalty is influenced by emotional value, social value, and online satisfaction. Performance value, value-for-money, and offline satisfaction are all found to have an indirect impact on loyalty. The results may provide further insights into marketing strategies for social networking O2O apps.

This study investigates determinants of the adoption behavior of smartphone users. Despite the increasing number of smartphone users, the literature on information technology usage has paid little attention to the motivation behind smartphone adoption. This study identifies three determinants of smartphone adoption behavior: innovative characteristics, brand equity and social influences. Data were collected from 293 smartphone users. The analytical results have indicated that users choose to use smartphone not only for its usefulness, enjoyment and compatibility to their lifestyle i.e. innovative characteristics, but also for its cost effectiveness i.e. brand equity. Additionally, users will search for related information for the suitability of their adoption decisions i.e. social influence. Together, the above factors account for over 60 percent of adoption behaviors. Moreover, the findings also indicate that perceptions of use varied over the innovation diffusion stage. Implications and suggestions for practitioners are also discussed.
