An experimental study for a home-use digital VTR

An experimental digital VTR system is described. A modified DCT (discrete cosine transform) has been developed for this system that needs only one-half the number of multipliers of a conventional DCT, making the hardware scale smaller. A data quantity estimator controls the variable-length coding for completion within a synchronization block, keeping the picture quality high. Three stages of error correction correct more errors and make the probability of miscorrection lower. A high area packing density of 270 Mb/in/sup 2/ is brought about by the use of a low-noise head amplifier, optimized payback signal processing, high-performance magnetic heads and tapes, and a stable tracking to narrow tracks. >

Sound signal processor for extracting sound signals from a composite digital sound signal

A sound signal processing apparatus including extracting means for extracting from a composite sound signal, representing multiple sound sequences, digital sound signals corresponding to a portion of the composite sound signal. Each of the digital sound signals is individually sampled. Also included is a signal converter for converting the digital sound signals which have been extracted into analog sound signals.

A study on detection of blocks for digital VCR

A study on a protection method for the block detection using in digital VCR is described. The target of the performance of the protection is to get less errors than error correction completed in a block. A method for reducing block errors that has satisfactory performance have been developed. >
