In this study, vibration characteristics in according to the load type of cast resin transformer using vibration measurement device were compared. Measurement conditions are the same installation and operation of the three-phase cast resin transformer. If the load increases in transformer using the rotating machinery, the frequency is growing. In the transformer using the lighting and heating loads, it`s detected the 55 [] in or outside and 120 [] or more at 60[Hz], the 30 [] in or outside at 120[Hz], and the 70 [] in or outside at 420[Hz]. When increases the loads, it`s appeared the 60 [] or less at 450[Hz] or more in rotating machinery, but the velocity of lighting and lighting loads are appeared from 5[] to 115[] inside the 420[Hz] in the same load condition of 20[%]. Through this study, it`s verified that there are differences the internal vibration in according to the type of load in cast resin transformer.

This paper describes the breakdown poperties of porcelain and polymer insulators using the UV camera. The experiment was carried out using condition of voltage at the KS C IEC 60060-1(2006). As these results, corona discharge in porcelain insulator was generated the weakness point of insulator union. And the corona discharge of polymer insulator happened in union of power source. Also, we could confirm easily weakness part of these insulators by ultraviolet image through the corona discharge. Besides, in the comparison with the exciting technique of ultrasonic detection, it confirmed that deterioration steps are corrected. These steps are possible to judge the deterioration of power facilities through reliable date. Hereafter, this study as the diagnostic technology suitable for the sites is used.

In this paper, we were analyzed the vibration characteristics of the three-phase cast resin transformer using less than 50% of load in the field. Most of the cast resin transformer is less than 50% in the domestic field is used for load conditions. Consisting of a solid insulator cast resin transformer is generating lots of noise and vibration. In addition, because it is affected by Joule `s heat is used in light load conditions. As a results, the transformer vibrations at frequencies below about from 200Hz to 500Hz were detected. Vibration velocity depends on the load variations were found. Load up to approximately 20-30% in most cases the vibration velocity was found at 4,000 or less, 8,000 or more. Vibration frequency at light load conditions were generated at the 120Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz and 480Hz. At the load condition of from 10% to 20%, vibration velocity is higher than another. Most of the vibration velocity were identified at the 1,000 or less. Using the vibration frequency and velocity measurements data, the load on the cast resin transformer analyzed the correlation of the burden. Therefore, this data could be found in the vibration characteristics of the light-load conditions. If the field measurements using the data perform diagnostics on the transformer, it`s expected to be very effective.

This study used general carbon fibers(CF), which can be utilized for a low voltage cable screen, as well as metal-coated carbon fibers(MCF) to make cables and analyzed the properties of electromagnetic effectiveness. Both braid CF and MCF cables with 3,000 strands, 16 spindles, and braid density of 90% or over were adopted. The tape-type MCF specimens were spread into a tape(width: 15mm) using a hot melt to make a cable. The shield effectiveness was measured up to the 1GHz range in accordance with IEC 62153-4-6; braid shielded cables featured a superior shielding effect at 63dB than tape-type shielded cables. That was because the tape-type shielded cable has relatively more gaps and holes between carbon fibers than the braid type, resulting in a more inflow or emission of electromagnetic waves. In the case of braid cables, the characteristics of their electromagnetic waves were enhanced, with higher spindles and higher conductivity of carbon fibers. The shield effectiveness of the MCF shielded cable, however, was lower than that of tin-coated one.

The Characteristics of the Over-current of Shielded Cable and the Fusing Current of Carbon Fiber

Young-Seok Kim; Taek-Hee Kim; Chong-Min Kim; Kil-Mok Shong

In this paper, we investigated the fusing current of carbon fiber and thermal properties of carbon fiber and metal shielded cable due to over-current. The fusing current value for the metal-coated carbon fiber was 5.3A in 3K, 7.4K and 13.05A in 12K. And if it exceeds 50% of the fusing current was broken with a rapid voltage rise. In the case of carbon fiber shielded cable, the temperature of the PVC sheath increased somewhat in the allowable current range. However, the temperature of PVC sheath rapidly increased to 128.1℃ in the 2 time allowable current range. This value is 10℃ higher than the temperature of PVC sheath on the metal screen cable, because the resistance of the carbon fiber is high and heat transfer rate is slow.

Hyoung-Jun Gil; Kil-Mok Shong; Young-Seok Kim; Chong-Min Kim; Young-Jin Kim

This paper describes the design and fabrication of high frequency ground impedance measuring system for assessment of grounding system for Lightning protection. The ground impedance measuring system has been designed and fabricated which makes it possible to assess the ground impedance by frequency ranges from 100 Hz to 1 MHz. The effective grounding systems having a very low impedance to electromagnetic disturbance such as lightning surges and noises in microelectronics and high-technology branches are strongly required. In order to analyze the dynamic characteristic of grounding system impedances in lightning and surge protection grounding systems, it is highly desirable to assess the ground impedances as a measure of performance of grounding system in which lightning and switching surge currents with fast rise time and high frequency flow. The measuring system is based on the variable frequency power supply and consists of signal circuit part, main control part, data acquisition and processing unit, and voltage and current probe system. The ground impedance measuring system can be used to assess grounding system during occurrence of lightning.

Measurement and Analysis of Ground Impedance according to Arrangement of Auxiliary Probe around Ground Grid

Hyoung-Jun Gil; Kil-Mok Shong; Young-Seok Kim; Chong-Min Kim

This paper describes the measurement and analysis of ground impedance according to arrangement of auxiliary probe around ground grid using the fall-of-potential method and the testing techniques to minimize the measuring errors are proposed. The fall-of-potential method involves passing a current between a ground electrode and a current probe, and then measuring the voltage between a ground electrode and a potential probe. To minimize interelectrode influences due to mutual resistances, the current probe is a generally placed at a substantial distance from the ground electrode under test. In order to analyze the effects of ground impedance due to the arrangement of auxiliary probe and frequency, ground impedances were measured in case that the arrangements of auxiliary probe were straight line, perpendicular line, and horizontal line. The distance of current probe was located from 10[m] to 200[m] and the measuring frequency was ranged from 55[Hz] to 513[Hz]. As a consequence, the ground impedance increases with increasing the distance from the ground electrode to the point to be tested, but the ground impedance decreases with increasing the frequency.

Hyoung-Jun Gil; Kil-Mok Shong; Young-Seok Kim; Chong-Min Kim

This paper describes the analysis of deterioration characteristics for connection factor used in grounding system. The connection method of grounding system is specified in IEC standard. In order to analyze the deterioration characteristics for connection factor, deterioration test was carried out when the connection factor was buried in salt water and underground. The test connection factors were C-type sleeve, clamp, and exothermic welding. As a consequence, most of the connection factor was corroded, and the electrical resistance decreased after deterioration. The analytical results can be used to establish the safety of grounding system.

Y.S. Kim; Myung-Il Choi; Chong-Min Kim; Sun-Bae Bang; Kil-Mok Shong; Dong-Soon Kwag

In this study, degradation was observed by irradiating UV rays to the polymer insulators which have been widely used in outdoor electric power facilities. For an indoor accelerated UV test, 0.55 w/m2 of UV rays were applied using a xenon-arc method. A UV detection system with 65 Ømm in diameter, 100 mm in length and 1.0 of brightness (F/#) has been designed. Even though efflorescence on the surface of polymer insulators wasnt observed according to the accelerated UV test. UV rays were detected at around 50% and 40% of insulation breakdown in EPDM and silicone-type insulators respectively. As degradation continued because of an indoor accelerated UV test, breakdown voltage with which UV rays can be detected in an early stage decreased as well. A silicone polymer insulator would be severer than EPDM polymer insulator in terms of surface degradation because of UV strength against Vm/VBD was high in silicone polymer insulators. UV strength in silicone-type insulators increased at 1,000 kJ/m2 because contact angle at the intial stage sharply decreased to from 113° to 92.1°
