Pentafluorophenyl organometallic compounds of group IV elements

Abstract The synthesis of pentafluorophenyl group IV elements (C 6 F 5 ) 4 Si, (C 6 F 6 ) 4 Ge (C 6 F 5 ) 4 Sn, (C 6 F 5 ) 4 Pb, (C 5 H 5 ) 2 Ti(C 6 F 5 ) 2 and (C 5 H 5 ) 2 Zr(C 6 F 5 ) 2 is reported. The above compounds are prepared through the reaction of the appropriate metal halide and pentafluorophenyllithium. The various pentafluorophenyl derivatives were subjected to the following studies: infrared and vapor phase chromatography analysis, acid and base hydrolysis, thermal stability and reactions with bromine and lithium.

A new synthesis of perfluoroaromatic grignard reagents

Abstract Perfluoroarylmagnesium compounds have been synthesized directly from completely fluorinated aryl compounds ( e.g., hexafluorobenzene, decafluorobiphenyl, octafluorotoluene and octafluoronaphthalene) through their reaction with ethylmagnesium bromide and certain transition metal halides (CoCl 2 , FeCl 2 , NiCl 2 , CuI, TiCl 4 , PdCl 2 , RhCl 3 and AgCl). The yields of the perfluoroarylmagnesium compound vary with the type of perfluoroaryl substrate and metal halide. The perfluoroarylmagnesium compounds thus formed undergo typical Grignard reactions.
