Reliable Computing | 1995

A reliable linear algebra library for transputer networks

This paper presents a collection of linear algebra subroutines for transputer networks. The developed pilot library is intended to form a basis of a complete parallel linear algebra library for validating computations, whose routines will deliver (as accurately as necessary) either the best possible result, or a corresponding inclusion based on controlled rounding and an optimal scalar product.So far, as a first step, we have produced code for interval arithmetic, scalar products and simple vector-matrix operations with maximum accuracy. For the solution of triangular systems and the LU decomposition of dense matrices, new versions of classical methods are implemented which allow the application of optimal scalar products as a single, invidisible operation and optimize the overlap of communication and computation. The library also contains routines for computing inclusions of unstructured, dense linear systems of equations.Network topology dependency is avoided in all numerical routines by the use of general communication routines. This way the user is able to work with different topologies like ring structures, binary trees and hypercubes.AbstractПредставлен набор линейно-алгебраических подпрограмм лля транспьютерных сетей Эта пробная библиотека разрабатывалась как основа лля полной параллельной линейно-алгебраической библиотеки доказательных вычислений. Входяшие в зту библиотеку процелуры буаут обеспечинать (с необходимой точностыо) либо наилучший возможный результат, либо соответствуюшее ему включение. Основой для пропедур является управляемое окрлление и оптимальное скалярное произведение.Пока, в качестве первого шага, нами написаны пропедуры для интервальной арифмегики, скалярных произведеннй и простых векторно-матричных операций с максимальной точностью Для решения греуголяных систем и LU-разложения плотных матриц реализованы новые версин классических метолов, которые позволяют исподьзовать оптимальное скалярное произведение как елиную неделимую и операциюи оптимизируют олновременное выполние вычислений и обмена ланными в вычислительной сети. Ута библиотека также солержт пуопелуры лля вычисления включений неструктурпрованых плотных систем синейных уравнений.Во всех численнах процедурах мы избегали зависимости от топологин конкретной сети за счет использованпя обобшенных коммуникационных процедур Позтому нользователь библиотеки сможет работать с такими различными топологиями, как кольцевые структуры, бинарные деревья и гиперкубы.

Componentwise Error Bounds and Direct Linear System Solving

It is shown that componentwise relative error bounds can be computed efficiently in connection with direct linear system solving. No restriction is made on the data matrix. In a series of experiments the effectiveness of the componentwise approach is demonstrated and compared to the conventional normwise approach as incorporated in the numerical linear algebra library LAPACK.

Verified Solving of Linear Systems with Uncertainties in MAPLE

An algorithm with result verification for linear systems involving uncertainties in the input data is realized for Maple. We give an overview on the collection of procedures designed as a package and report on numerical experiments which confirm the feasibility of implementing such algorithms in computer algebra systems. The package will be made available under the name Velisy for the Maple share library.
