This paper presents a wideband ohmic shunt switch implemented on a coplanar waveguide (CPW). The switch is fabricated using a dielectric membrane with patterned metallic contacts that short the CPW line when it is electrostatically actuated. The switch has been extrapolated from measurements. It exhibits low insertion loss, good matching, high isolation from DC to W band (>20 dB up to 100 GHz) and very good mechanical properties with switching time <1/spl mu/s.

This letter presents a fourth-order quasi elliptic bandpass filter based on a multilayer technology. Thanks to the use of the third dimension, multilayer technology appears as a very convenient solution when a high coupling is required. This led us to use a coupling coefficient-based approach to design a very compact filter through the association of open-loop resonators and floating metallic patches to elevate coupling.

Receiver design for digital radar and optical communication involves optimization and realization of an equalizing filter to provide a suitable signal at the input to the decision circuit. A frequently encountered problem in filter design is the realization of a network with a specified frequency transfer characteristic. In this paper, the optimization of band pass characteristics is considered. Our approach is to approximate the target by the real frequency (RF) method, which gives directly the elements of the equalizing filter. The method is illustrated by the design of a filter for a radar communications receiver.
