Towards a philosophy of continuing professional education in nursing, midwifery and health visiting

This paper outlines a justification for developing and articulating a belief system which encompasses continuing professional education and the theory and practice of nursing. It describes the nature and rationale for such a belief system, distinguishing it from the pursuit of an absolute or philosophy. Nevertheless, it is suggested that such a belief system owes and contributes much to both a philosophy of education and of nursing.

Review: Reflexivity: A comment on feminist ethnography

ride roughshod over the caring arts of the professionals involved. This work-in-progress paper attempts, in part, to rescue those arts from the oblivion of technology. Getting into that world and, more importantly, understanding it in a way that has meaning is a methodological nightmare. Strict researcher objecti~~ity will tend to reduce the questions which can be asked to the technological. Such questions may have little to do with the experiences of women and of professionals involved in their care. This paper addresses the difficulties of getting in; it also engages our attention with a debate about meaning.
