Task Scheduling Based on Load Approximation in Cloud Computing Environment

Chuan-Feng Chiu; Steen J. Hsu; Sen-Ren Jan; Jyun-An Chen

Cloud computing is an emerging technology and gain attention in academic and business area. Resources are pooled and share with users on demand. In order to provide better performance of cloud environment, task scheduling is an important issue. On the other hand, in large scale cloud environment, cloud devices search and query influence the performance also. Therefore, in this paper we propose a AVL-tree based cloud computing environment to organized the cloud devices in O(logn) regarding the cloud device management operations complexity and task scheduling considering the real-time average system load of cloud computing environment.

An Improved Data Hiding Method Using Image Interpolation

Sen-Ren Jan; Steen J. Hsu; Chuan-Feng Chiu; Shu-Lin Chang

Reversible data hiding method enables to recover the cover image after the secret data were extracted. Recently, a reversible data hiding method based on image interpolation has been proposed. It can contain high capacity and keep good visual quality. In this study, an improved method has proposed to refine the interpolation image based method. Experimental results revealed that the proposed method has the same capacity and promoted the quality of stego-image when compared with the origin method.

Chun-Hong Huang; Chuan-Feng Chiu; Su-Li Chin; Li-Hua Hsin; Yi-Pei Yu

The major purpose of this paper is to establish a Sports E-learning Platform in order to provide athletic related teaching materials, such as physical motions and exercise rules. The platform can integrate the Multimedia teaching materials which include video and 2D animation. Multimedia contents of teaching material not only increase the learning efficient but also the interesting of learning, especially in the area of Physical Education. The design concept of our works is based on ADDIE model of ISD (Instruction System Design) theory with the purposes of analysis, design, development, implementation, & evaluation. Via the usage of this physical education E-learning platform, we hope to let players perform efficient self learning for sports skills, indirectly foster mutual help, cooperation, nice norms of law-abiding via the learning of athletic rules, and become skilled at accurate recreation knowledge & first aid expertise. Moreover, coaches can use this system as a teaching facility.

The design of UPnP-based home environment over peer-to-peer overlay network

Chuan-Feng Chiu; Steen J. Hsu; Sen-Ren Jan

With the population of network usage, it is possible to connect home appliances with each other. The basic demand is to connect home appliances easily with less user intervening. UPnP is the most popular technology for realizing digital home. UPnP provide service and device discovery by sending broadcast message periodically. Therefore, this causes efficiency problem arising from many broadcast messages. In addition, home network is an emergence environment which might comprise several network architecture including Ethernet, wireless network, or power-line etc.. Therefore, traditional broadcast will not work well in the complex network architecture. In order to solve the above problems, we propose a middleware implementation to realize UPnP operations over peer-to-peer overlay network.

The Design of a Video-Based OSGi-Compliant Remote Home Network Control System

Chuan-Feng Chiu; Chun-Hong Huang; Steen J. Hsu; Sen-Ren Jan

With the population of networking infrastructure in home area, we can realize Smart Home nowadays. Automation, zero-configuration and easy to use are the major requirements of Smart Home. In this paper, we propose a design of an integrated framework to realize Ubiquitous Smart home control. In our proposed architecture, home users indicate home device, for example, DVD player etc., in the real-time video from home camera. The control panel of the indicated device will be delivered to user devices and home user can control the device by the on-demand control panel. The main contribution of our work is to make Smart Home Control easily. Home user can ignore the device allocation of Smart Home and follow on the strategy ¡§ what you seen what you can use¡¨.

Distortion-free multiple images sharing scheme with universal share

Steen J. Hsu; Chuan-Feng Chiu; Chia-Tai Chan; Sen-Ren Jan

Recently, Fang and Lin proposed a multiple images sharing system with a universal share. This universal share can be used for a companys organizer to attend the recovery meeting of any shared images. Since the organizer only needs to keep the unique share, it reduces the difficulties of the share management of the organizer. However, the universal share is embedded into a secret by the least-significant-bits (LSB) substitution method before evaluating all the shares of the secret. The secret image becomes a distortion image. The original secret cannot be reconstructed without loss. In this paper, we present a distortion-free sharing scheme for the sharing of multiple images. Instead of using LSB to embed a universal share, all the bits of the secret image and the universal share are used to generate the coefficients of sharing polynomials. Moreover, this paper employs the Galois Field GF(28) instead of GF(251). Since all the information of the security image is hiding in those polynomials, the original secret can be revealed without any distortion.

The design of topology-aware overlay networks for ubiquitous applications

Chuan-Feng Chiu; Steen J. Hsu; Sen-Ren Jan; Shao-Min Lyu

In recent year, ubiquitous computing has gained more attention in academic area. With ubiquitous computing, users can process or get information anytime and anywhere. Fortunately, with the advent of peer-to-peer overlay network, the ubiquitous environment can become scalable with using the peer-to-peer overlay network as the communication middleware. Peer-to-Peer overlay network is an application model without considering underlying network topology. But there exists mis-match problem between peer-to-peer overlay network and physical network topology. This cause inefficient transmission or routing between peers in the peer-to-peer overlay network. On the other hand, the situation will have serious delay in real-time service, for example streaming service. Therefore, in this paper we propose an improvement mechanism based on physical network hop information to reduce the transmission cycles to adjust the arrangement of peer-to-peer overlay network dynamically.

The design of collaborative three-dimensional scene transmission system

Chuan-Feng Chiu; Steen J. Hsu; Sen-Ren Jan

Because of the growth of network and device capability, to realize the 3D content on general computation devices have become a popular and challenging research area as well as video delivery over internet in the past years. But in order to transmit 3D content over Internet, there still exist some issues that need to be solved in the following. (1) In recent development on 3D delivery technology, most of them focus on client-server architecture that deploys a central server or proxy to process 3D content rendering, storage and delivery. Therefore, the heavy computation and processing will be the bottleneck of the central server so that the overall performance might be worse. (2) 3D scenes always have large volume so that 3D scenes from one server may gain worse transmission performance and users device will not have large storage space as well as server device. Therefore, in this paper we propose a collaborative 3D scene transmission system over peer-to-peer network to overcome the issues.
