Nowadays, many companies have migrated their applications and data to the cloud. Among other benefits of this technology, the ability to answer quickly business requirements has been one of the main motivations. Thereby, in cloud environments, resources should be acquired and released automatically and quickly at runtime. This way, to ensure QoS, the major cloud providers emphasize ensuring of availability, CPU instance and cost measure in their SLAs (Service Level Agreements). However, the QoS performance are not completely handled or inappropriately treated in SLAs. Although from the users point of view, it is considered one of the main QoS parameters. Therefore, the aim of this work consists in development of a solution to efficient query processing on large databases available in the cloud environments. It integrates adaptive re-optimization at query runtime and their costs are based on the SRT (Service Response Time) QoS performance parameter of SLA. Finally, the solution was evaluated in Amazon EC2 cloud infrastructure and the TPC-DS like benchmark was used for generating a database.

Mobile computing and portable devices, for example, are changing the relationships between human and computers, and are introducing a new approach of communication based on context. According to Figueiredo (Figueiredo & Nakamura, 2003) this new approach of communication allows people to interact seamlessly with objects, computers, environments, etc. Such technological advances are a significant departure from the existing computational paradigm in which users need to interact explicitly with the systems in order to achieve the expected results.

Industrial automation has been the focus of many studies owing to the need for increased production in the market and constant technological developments. Thus, the concepts of industrial automation have been incorporated into the medical area for some time, and are now being used in hospital automation. However, the hospital environment still not being properly automated and the automation that does exist is only found in a few processes. Several studies have been developed and are usually addressed most of the problems involved in processes with automation potential, such as: security, communication, reliability and performance of applications, biomedical devices, systems usability, logical and temporal consistency, among others.

In cloud environments, resources should be acquired and released automatically and quickly at runtime. Therefore, ensuring the desired QoS is a great challenge for the cloud service provider. Moreover, it increases when we have large amount of data to be manipulated in this environment. Considering that, performance is an important requirement for most customers when they migrate their applications to the cloud. In this paper, we propose a model for measuring a Service Response Time estimated for different request types on large databases available in a cloud environment. This work allows the cloud service provider and its customers establish an appropriate SLA relative to performance expected of services available in the cloud. Finally, the model was evaluated in Amazon EC2 cloud infrastructure and the TPC-DS like benchmark was used for generating a database of structured data, considering that some cloud computing platforms support SQL queries directly or indirectly. This makes the proposed solution relevant for these kind of problems.

The popularization of the Web and the advent of new information and communication technologies of mobile devices make possible new aspects for management, interaction and information sharing. In petroliferous area, monitoring systems on mobile devices have been used for process optimization, data monitoring, reporting, alarm generation and identification of failures in real-time on oil wells platforms. However, there are few systems that identify efficiently problems due the fact they do not use techniques of real-time systems. This paper proposes the new system, SiMoS, a real-time system for remote monitoring oil wells platforms through mobile devices.

In order to provide the news demands that a real-time database needs to work properly, some improvements have been proposed in aspects well done like concurrency control, scheduling and query language. In the perspective of obtain better results, despite the accomplished efforts, these problems continuous been studied. In this paper we introduce a new query language for real-time database (QL-RTDB), thats an extension of the structured query language (SQL-99). Besides the new functionalities of the extended language presented, we also show its implementation with the applied results obtained.
