Synthesis and Characterization of EDTA Complexes Useful for Trace Elements Supplementation

Enrique J. Baran; Claudia C. Wagner; María H. Torre

The synthesis of two heterobimetallic EDTA complexes, MgCu(EDTA).6H2O and ZnCu(EDTA).6H2O, is described. They were characterized by means of vibrational (infrared and Raman) and electronic (reflectance) spectroscopy. Several dissolution tests in 0.1 N HCl and simulated gastric juice were also performed. The results support the potential usefulness of these complexes for copper supplementation in human and veterinary medicine and to the simultaneous reinforcement of Mg(II) and Zn(II) levels.

Crystal Structure and IR Spectrum of Diaqua(o-phenanthroline) bis(saccharinato)lead(II)

Enrique J. Baran; Claudia C. Wagner; Miriam Rossi; Francesco Caruso

The crystal structure of [Pb(sac)2ophen(H2O)2] (sac = saccharinate anion; ophen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been solved by single X-ray diffractometry. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4. The PbII atom presents the coordination number eight with unusual coordination of the ligand atoms between square-antiprism and dodecahedron. The saccharinate anion acts as a bidentate ligand. The i. r. spectrum of the complex has been analyzed in detail and assigned on the basis of the structural peculiarities.

Vibrational spectra of two Fe(III)/EDTA complexes useful for iron supplementation

Claudia C. Wagner; Enrique J. Baran

The infrared and Raman spectra of Na[FeEDTA(H(2)O)]x2H(2)O and Na(4)[(FeEDTA)(2)O]x3H(2)O (EDTA=tetra anion of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), two complexes proposed as adequate for iron supplementation, were recorded and analyzed in relation to its structural peculiarities. Some comparisons between the recorded spectra are also presented, and the characteristics of the carboxylate motions as well as those of the metal-to-ligand vibrations are discussed in detail.

Vibrational spectra of Zn(II) complexes of the amino acids with hydrophobic residues.

Claudia C. Wagner; Enrique J. Baran

The infrared and Raman spectra of the bis-chelated Zn(II) complexes of the amino acids glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, isoleucine and phenylalanine were recorded and analyzed in relation to its structural peculiarities. Some comparisons between the recorded spectra are also presented and the characteristics of the carboxylate motions as well as those of the metal-to-ligand vibrations are discussed in detail.

Characterization of bis(isoorotato)diaquamagnesium(II) dihydrate: a potentially useful complex for magnesium supplementation.

Claudia C. Wagner; Enrique J. Baran; Oscar E. Piro

The synthesis and crystal structure of a new Mg(II) complex of stoichiometry [Mg(isoor)2(H2O)2].2H2O, where isoor is the monoanion of 5-carboxyuracil (isoorotic acid), are reported. The structure, solved by single-crystal X-ray diffractometry, shows that it crystallizes in the triclinic space group P(-1) with Z = 1. The electronic, IR and Raman spectra of the complex are briefly discussed. Its thermal behavior was also investigated by means of thermal gravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) measurements in an oxygen atmosphere. Dissolution studies support the usefulness of the compound for magnesium supplementation.

Vibrational spectra of the Ga(III) complexes with oxine and clioquinol.

Claudia C. Wagner; Ana C. González-Baró; Enrique J. Baran

The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of the gallium(III) complexes of 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine) and 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline (clioquinol), were recorded and briefly discussed by comparison with the spectra of the uncoordinated ligands and with some related species.

A. Massaferro; E. Kremer; Claudia C. Wagner; Enrique J. Baran

The infrared and Raman spectra of Pb4(PO4)2SO4 were recorded and interpreted with the aid of a site symmetry analysis. Some comparisons with related species are made. Copyright

A new potentially useful complex for lithium therapies: dimeric monoaqua lithium isoorotate

Claudia C. Wagner; Enrique J. Baran; Oscar E. Piro; Eduardo E. Castellano

Abstract The synthesis and X-ray crystal and molecular structures of a new Li(I) complex of stoichiometry [Li(isoor)H 2 O] 2 , where isoor is the monoanion of 5-carboxyuracil (isoorotic acid), are reported. It crystallizes in the monoclinic P 2 1 / n space group with Z =2, and a five-fold bipyramidal coordination around the Li(I) was observed for the first time. The electronic, infrared and Raman spectra of the complex are briefly discussed. Its thermal behavior was investigated by means of thermal gravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Dissolution studies were also performed in order to test the pharmacological characteristics of the complex.

Vibrational Spectrum of a Platinum Complex of Piroxicam

Claudia C. Wagner; Enrique J. Baran

Abstract The infrared and Raman spectra of a platinum complex of the antiinflammatory drug piroxicam (Pir) and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) of composition [PtCl2Pir(DMSO)] were recorded and briefly discussed on the basis of its structural characteristics. The metal-to-ligand vibrations are analyzed in detail.
