The air temperature increase in urban centers can lead to problems such as increased energy consumption associated to air conditioning, the intensification of pollution, human discomfort and health problems. In this context, the building envelope plays an important role in urban thermal equilibrium. Energy efficiency rating systems for buildings (LEED—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, AQUA—High Environmental Quality, PROCEL Edifica, etc.) stimulate energy efficiency actions in the built environment, considering, for example, the envelope and energy efficiency initiatives in buildings. Research carried out recently has shown that monitoring of buildings can provide important information about building performance, supporting building control strategies and enabling actions aimed at improving energy efficiency and thermal comfort. More specifically, wireless sensors are also being used to monitor buildings. This work proposes and presents the development of a surface temperature sensor that can support actions to enhance energy efficiency in the built environment, meeting the requirements proposed by the energy efficiency rating systems of buildings. This sensor must have characteristics such as low cost, the storage capacity of a large amount of data and the possibility of remote monitoring of the collected temperatures. Computer simulations and validation tests were carried out showing that the proposed sensor allows the remote monitoring (using a wireless transmission system) of the surface temperature in buildings, respecting the requirements of high storage capability and low cost.

Object-oriented load flow modeling and implementation for distribution power systems

Adolfo Blengini Neto; Marcius Fabios Henriques de Carvalho; Lia Toledo Moreira Mota; Claudia Cotrim Pezzuto

This This paper presents a new open source algorithm based on object-oriented technique to obtain load flow solution in radially operated distribution networks, in which the decision can chose among three load models: constant impedance, constant power and constant current. The object-oriented technique is chosen due to its simplicity and easy to program. The implementation of the backward / forward algorithm to solve a distribution load flow the was tested on the IEEE 34 bus system and its simplicity, flexibility and quickness was analyzed.

Tiago Gerard Machado; Lia Toledo Moreira Mota; Marcius Fabius Henriques de Carvalho; Claudia Cotrim Pezzuto

Cybersecurity for Smart Grids requires a combined focus on information security for IT systems, on communications network and on the physical equipment of the electric grid. Thus, this work aims to develop a methodology for the identification of the cybersecurity maturity level in smart grids. This methodology is based on two steps. The first step corresponds to the identification of assets, threats and impacts and the second step corresponds to the analysis and classification of 126 requirements that are categorized in 16 groups. This analysis permit to identify the maturity level of a specific use case. The methodology was applied considering the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System) of a Brazilian energy distribution company, comparing the SCADA developed by this company and another SCADA commercially available. The obtained results attest the validity of the proposed methodology, since they show that the method was able to identify the maturity level for both systems.

MODELAGEM DE CARGAS UTILIZANDO SISTEMAS BASEADOS EM REGRAS PARA ESTUDOS DE EFICIÊNCIA ENERGÉTICA

Lucas Righetti; Suzana Mota; Lia Toledo Moreira Mota; Claudia Cotrim Pezzuto
