OBJECTIVE To characterize the dissertations and theses available in the Bank of Theses of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) that deal with trauma. METHODS This is a documentary research on the characterization of Brazilian theses and dissertations that deal with trauma, available at the CAPES Theses Database. Data collection was carried out in March 2012, by masters degree students and PhDs, following a research protocol. RESULTS A total of 411 dissertations and theses about trauma were analyzed. We elucidated considerations on the following aspects of the selected studies: academic level, location of conduction of the work, authors training, methodological design, theme and type of trauma. CONCLUSION The significant amount of studies analyzed reveals the importance of trauma in the current scenario, the expansion of graduate programs and researchers being in line with the theme that alarmingly affects the national and international epidemiology.

This was a reflective study based on the question: what are the current challenges (the reasons-for) for the affirmation of empowerment in nursing practices? We aimed to reflect on the reasons-for the empowerment in nursing, based on the theoretical framework of Alfred Schutz. Understanding the reasons-for as a set of things to be established, the purpose to be achieved, the project to be conducted, and the willingness to do so, we reflected on such motives, seeking the affirmation of empowerment in nursing, embracing: nursing practice as intentionally constructed action; scientific knowledge that did not negate the biographical situation of the subjects; practices that resulted in a face-to-face relationship; and systemic care inserted into the complexity of everyday lives. We concluded that reflecting on the reasons-for the empowerment in nursing meant the highlighting of many challenges outlined in the current panorama of this profession. This was a reflective study based on the question: what are the current challenges (the reasons-for) for the affirmation of empowerment in nursing practices? Doi: 10.5902/2179769213188 Aim: to carry out a theoretical essay about the philosophical interface of Watson’s transpersonal caring-healing and the products of the “healing architecture” provided by nursing protocols. Method: theoretical essay guided by the research question: which is the philosophical interface of Watson’s transpersonal caring-healing and the products of the “healing architecture” provided by nursing protocols? Results: we performed a reflexive analysis of seven studies, which enabled to weave philosophical considerations of two axes: transpersonal caring-healing and nursing protocols, and “from the text to the borders”: (de) construct nursing practices based on nursing protocols. Final considerations: we hope to expand the philosophical discussions about the theme, as well as encourage the use of nursing protocols as a paradigmatic transformation tool of nursing care.

This was an exploratory study with a quantitative approach carried out on the YouTube video sharing website. It aimed at analyzing videos from YouTube about adverse health events identifying the existence of relationships to patient safety. The search of videos was performed in December of 2013, on the YouTube website by combining “patient safety and adverse events”. Thirteen videos were analyzed according to the indicators: duration; author; date of posting; total views; category; approach; focus; health professionals cited; type of adverse health event approached; causes; consequences; prevention strategies; and relationships with patient safety. Despite the incipient number of videos being elucidated, considering the actual relevance of the subject, they highlighted the relationship between patient safety and adverse health event, focusing on prevention strategies. This was an exploratory study with a quantitative approach carried out on the YouTube video sharing website.
