A Novel Performance Measure for Picture Rate Conversion Methods

Motion compensated interpolation (MCI) is crucial for motion portrayal improvement of modern displays, and film judder elimination. As MCI complexity grows, subjective optimization becomes cumbersome and elaborate. We present an objective metric that matches perception better than earlier measures and apply it to evaluate recent MCI algorithms.

Detection of De-interlacing for Scaled Video

A novel low-cost detector is proposed that can robustly classify input video in progressive format as being de- interlaced or originally progressive for a broad range of de-interlacing techniques. Moreover, the detector determines the positions of original and interpolated lines and the scaling factor if the content was scaled after de-interlacing. The detector can be used in various applications, such as for the control of the TV video engine, the post-processing of poorly de-interlaced film content or the optimization of video compression schemes.
