Determination of Residues of the Fungicide Metalaxyl in Water by Solid-Phase Extraction with Gas Chromatography and Nitrogen–Phosphorus Detection

Abstract A rapid and sensitive method for the determination of metalaxyl residues in water samples has been developed. The metalaxyl residues were preconcentred from the sample by solid-phase extraction and determination by gas chromatography and nitrogen–phosphorus detection. The developed method was applied to water samples from an area under influence of highway accident in Brazil. After optimization of the extraction and detection conditions, the method was validated. Recoveries are generally better than 96.7%, with a relative standard deviation of 2.8–12.5%. The effective limit of quantification in the water samples after preconcentration step was 0.1 μg L−1.
