Should Chat Reference be Staffed by Librarians? An Assessment of Chat Reference at an Academic Library Using LibStats

This study analyzes 1557 chat reference questions received at Grand Valley State University Libraries over four semesters to determine the quantity and nature of the questions. Results indicated that use of chat reference was low and that less than a quarter of chat questions required a librarian to answer. The cost of a librarian answering a chat question ranged from

What we did: ORCID was added as an optional field in Vireo in early 2015. Due to staff time constraints, no promotional work was done to educate graduate students on this new field. In fall of 2015, we noticed that many ETDs were coming into our repository with an ORCID attached. We then looked at all 2015 submissions to find out how many students were using ORCID and whether certain disciplines were more likely to choose it.

Accessibility of Content in Institutional Repositories: Going Beyond Open Access

In Fall 2014, TxETDA distributed an updated survey to higher education institutions within Texas in order to: (1) Gather an updated perspective on the landscape of ETDs within the state (2) Understand current challenges and initiatives in the field (3) Re-focus TxETDA program to better serve our members. This document presents the results of that survey.
