Colchicum autumnale grown from formed, in the first five years of live, only vegetative organs. In the 4th year in the soil new bulbotuber was formed with a new protuberance and above the ground the first leaf pair appeared (it was single leafed in the first three years). In the 5th year the protuberance and the leaf pair were much more developed and in September-November the growth of a vegetative bud started from the bulbotubers but no flowers appeared.

A spontaneous population of Herniaria glabra L. collected in Valea Ierii (Distr. Cluj) was introduced in cultivation as a medicinal plant used in uro-genital diseases. The experiment was performed in the field of Agronomy Institute Cluj-Napoca. After an unsuccesfull attempt of cultivation by sowing, the plants established were used for vegetative propagation (remats in different ways). Using these remats an experimental culture was started in 1982. The developement of individual plants and the accumulation of active substances in the cloned material is discussed.

III. Common Autumn Crocus grown from seeds formed in the third year after sowing a new bulbotuber part with many fasciculate and one stake-like roots and a single aboveground leaf. The stake-like root, developed from the bulbotuber has a histological structure of a primary root with stocking functions and has a probable role in the formation of the new bulbotuber. The bulbotuber is advancing downwards, to lower soil levels by a growing basal protuberance. IV. In a population of spontaneous origin, transplanted from a natural meadow to the experimental field, five extreme morphotypes could be identified according to the dimension and form of tepals.
