Collaborative Supply Chains and Environmental Awareness: A Typology in Terms of Proximity

Corinne Blanquart; Valentina Carbone

The aim of this article is to examine collaborative supply chain practices and their related ways of integrating environmental dimensions. Seven case studies of collaboration were analysed through the lens of proximity economics, a theoretical framework at the crossroads of spatial and industrial economics. Starting with a sample of collaborative initiatives, taken from the professional press specialized in logistics, and further studied through in-depth interviews and secondary data analysis, a typology of collaborative practices was developed. This typology highlights the specifics of the relationships between firms associated with a particular degree of environmental awareness. It proves that the way of addressing environmental concerns is neither univocal nor simplistic and is related to different forms of interaction between actors.

Nathan Bounie; Corinne Blanquart

New Innovative Rail Services: Stakes and Perspectives

Corinne Blanquart; Thomas Zéroual

Background and aim: According European transport policy, information literacy plays a crucial role to promote sustainable transport. The purpose of this article is to outline the European transport policy impact on logistics organization. To analyze this impact, we will focus on freight transport in this chapter. Methods: European regulatory bills analyses since 1991 will be used as the basis of the evaluation of the transport policies limits. Results: We conclude that current European transport policies have several limitations. First of all, non-technological innovation is less fostered. Secondly, transportation policies still over-emphasize industrial activities. Innovation analysis for service activities is not very common yet. Finally, shippers’ needs are neglected. Conclusion: Technological impact fostering sustainability is over-estimated. By the way, transport policies should identify much more shippers’ needs. These needs are differentiated. They involve much more than technological solutions in order to foster sustainable transportation.
