The four-stage standardized modeling method in data warehouse system development

This paper has summarized the traditional three-stage methods on relational database designing and developing according to the practical data warehousing applications, and has brought forward a new integrated method based on it, namely the four-stage standardized model, which includes conceptual modeling, logical modeling, object modeling and physical modeling. Considering that the three-stage method is unable to completely reflect the subject-oriented features of the data warehouse and describe its metadata models, this new method is obviously the reinforcement and improvement to the three-stage method, in that it displays the whole structure of the data warehouse more clearly and adapts to the modularization trend of the data warehouse modeling.

Human factors in collaborative traffic flow management based on composite information space

Air traffic flow management (ATFM) system is a very complex system, in which many tasks strongly rely on human operators, especially on teams of operators or organizations, e.g. controllers, pilot and airlines. For better system performance, human behaviors must be taken into account. In this paper, the composite information space (CIS) is introduced, which deals with human factors and environment factors, and a composite information model is also proposed. Based on CIS, this paper focuses on human factors in ATFM system, in particular, the collaborative activity (cooperation or coordination amongst human operators) in the systems, and the concept of collaborative traffic flow management (CTFM) is introduced accordingly. The impacts of human factors on system reliability are analyzed at the end of this paper.

DECISION ANALYSIS OF THE POLLUTION CONTROL OF THE HUANGPU RIVER

The pollution control of the Huangpu River in Shanghai is a large engineering project which can be benefited by system analysis. A long-term planning is complicated dynamic problem, because there are too many uncertainties, imprecisions, risks as well as intangible impacts to be considered along the time horizon. This paper presents a part of the results of system analysis which have been done jointly with Shanghai EPB and University of Michigan.
