By changing the polyoxoanions in the same metal–organic system (Ag/ptz), two novel inorganic–organic hybrids: [Ag10(ptz)5(HP2W18O62)(H2O)4]·2H2O (1), [Ag7(ptz)5(H2SiW12O40)(H2O)] (2) (ptz = 5-(4-pyridyl)-tetrazolate), are synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 and 2 show 3D POM-templated framework structures. In compound 1, a 2D layer is constructed by “shield-like” metal–organic circles templated by P2W18 polyoxoanions, which is extended to a 3D structure by covalent bonds in an interdigital mode. In compound 2, a 3D network is constructed by 2D layers and a “double bridge-pillar”, the Keggin polyoxoanion templates are enveloped in pairs in nanocages. The influences of polyoxoanion templates on the frameworks are discussed. The electrochemical behavior and luminescent properties for compound 1 and 2 are investigated.

In this paper, the preparation of ascorbic acid (AA)-doped polyoxometalate (SiW(12)-AA) microtubes is described. The SiW(12)-AA microtubes convert to heteropoly blue microtubes upon exposure to ammonia gas, which is an ammonia-triggered solid-solid redox reaction between AA molecules and polyoxometalates, and can possibly be applied to a chemical sensor for detecting ammonia and volatile organic amines. Furthermore, the SiW(12)-AA microtubes have been applied to the in situ synthesis of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) through the redox reaction between the AA component and Ag(+) ions occurring on the surfaces of the SiW(12)-AA microtubes to give silver NPs immobilized on polyoxometalate microtubes (Ag@SiW(12)).

A luminescent multilayer film has been fabricated from the polyoxometalate anion α- [PMo12O40]3− (α-PMo12) and the cation Fuchsin Basic (FB) through an electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly method and characterized by UV/Vis spectra, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectra. The fluorescence properties of the LbL film have also been investigated. Fluorescent nano-/microrods of the polyoxometalate (POM) K4H[Eu(α-SiW11O39)- (H2O)2] ・ 17H2O were obtained in aqueous solution by a conventional synthesis method. The nano-/microrods have been characterized by elemental analysis and FT-IR, UV/Vis, and TG-DTA data, and their morphology was examined by ESEM-FEG, showing that the average ratio of diameter to length is 1 : 20.
