Sideward flow parameters for Ar+KCl at 1.2 and 1.8 A GeV are compared with VUU model predictions for different nuclear equations of state. This model indicates that compressional effects are needed to account for the observed flow. Various uncertainties hinder a precise determination of the compressibility; our current best estimate lies somewhere between the so‐called ‘‘medium’’ and ‘‘stiff ’’ equations of state.

First results for 960 A.MeV 238U on 238U in the LBL streamer chamber

S. Y. Fung; D. Beavis; W. Gorn; D. Keane; Y. M. Liu; Robert T. Poe; G. J. VanDalen; M. Vient

We report preliminary results for uranium on uranium collisions at the LBL streamer chamber facility, at the maximum Bevalac incident energy. Global event parameters are compared with results for Ar on KCl in the same energy region, and with intranuclear cascade model predictions. We also report results of temperature fits to negative pion spectra.

Two‐ and three‐pion correlations in Ar on Pb3O4 collisions

S. Y. Fung; D. Beavis; S. Y. Chu; D. Keane; Y. M. Liu; Robert T. Poe; G. J. VanDalen; M. Vient

The technique of pion interferometry is used to study the pion source for central collisions of 1.8 GeV/nucleon Ar on Pb3O4. Both two and three pion correlations are presented.
