Abstract We report on neutron diffraction measurements and resonant X-ray magnetic scattering (RXMS) from [Er|Tb] multilayers. The magnetic correlation length differs for different sample preparation conditions. The phase diagram is a function of the single-layer thicknesses. RXMS gives evidence to the formation of helical magnetic order in Terbium below TC due to proximity effects caused by the Erbium surrounding.
