Oxovanadium(IV) complexes of the dithiocarbamate ligands derived from indole, indoline, carbazole and pyrrole

Robert D. Bereman; D. Nalewajek

Abstract The preparation of four oxovanadium(IV) dithiocarbamate complexes [VOL 2 : L = dithiocarbamate ligands derived from pyrrole, indole, indoline, or carbazole] is described. IR, optical and electron spin resonance spectral features of each complex are presented. The optical spectral features when coupled with the spin Hamiltonian parameters in a simple molecular orbital calculation indicate that the electron distribution between the V and S atoms is similar within this series and comparable to other dithiocarbamates with respect to the inplane σ- and π-bonding orbitals. In the out-of-plane π-orbitals, a slightly more covalent orbital is suggested for the title compounds. A rationalization of these data as well as a comparison to other metal dithiocarbamate complexes is presented.

The preparation and characterization of new eight-coordinate vanadium(IV) dithiocarbamate complexes

Robert D. Bereman; D. Nalewajek

Abstract The reaction between oxovanadium(IV) and the potassium salts of the four dithiocarbamates derived from indole, indoline, carbazole and pyrrole in a mixed acetonitrile-water solvent and subsequent recrystallization of the product gave pure VL 4 complexes. An IR, optical and electron spin resonance spectral characterization is reported. The data are consistant with a VS 8 chromophore with an approximate D 2 d geometry.
