Fossil ovipositions of dragonflies: Review and interpretation

D. V. Vasilenko; Alexandr P. Rasnitsyn

The paper deals with the stratigraphic range and morphology of fossil formations on plants interpreted as insect ovipositions. Our analysis of the insect fossil record has shown that the endophytic ovipositions probably belong to the Kennedyina and Triadophlebiina (in the Paleozoic and Lower Mesozoic) and to the Calopterygina (in the Upper Mesozoic and Cenozoic).

Feeding damage on upper Permian plants from the Sukhona River

D. V. Vasilenko

Several types of feeding traces (galls, window and margin feeding) on the leaves of Pursongia (Peltaspermales) are described from the Severodvinian of the Sukhona River, northern European Russia. These types are named according to the formal classification developed for the traces of the interaction between land arthropods (insects) and plants.

Margin feeding damage on the leaves of conifers and ginkgoales from the Mesozoic of Transbaikalia

D. V. Vasilenko

A new approach to the formal classification of arthropod margin feeding plant damage is proposed. Several types of margin feeding traces on the leaves of Pityophyllum sp. and Ginkgoites sp. from the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Chernovskie Kopi locality, Transbaikalia, are described as five new species in the genus Pinovulnus gen. nov.

Insect ovipositions on aquatic plant leaves Quereuxia from the Upper Cretaceous of the Amur region

D. V. Vasilenko

New form taxa of insect ovipositions on aquatic plant leaves Quereuxia from the Campanian locality of Udurchukan (Amur Region) are described. Endophytic ovipositions Paleoovoidus flabellatus sp. nov. and P. arcuatus sp. nov. do not differ in shape from ovipositions of recent damselflies. Exophytic ovipositions Palaexovoidus ovoideus gen. et sp. nov., P. catenulatus sp. nov., P. multus sp. nov., and P. amplus sp. nov. belong to insects that develop in the water, probably dragonflies of the suborder Anisoptera. A new family Palaexovoididae fam. nov. is erected.

Some characteristics of the trichoptera distribution in the Mesozoic of Eurasia (Insecta: Trichoptera)

A. G. Ponomarenko; I. D. Sukatsheva; D. V. Vasilenko

The stratigraphic distribution and peculiarities of burial of caddis cases from 293 Mesozoic localities in Eurasia are analyzed. An attempt is made to analyze and interpret the co-occurrence of trichopteran cases and adults in the major localities. The main stages in the evolution of the building behavior of trichopteran larvae in the Mesozoic have been elucidated.

Phytopathology in fossil plants: New data, questions of classification

N. P. Maslova; D. V. Vasilenko; Tatiana M. Kodrul

Examples of damages in fossil plants revealed using electron microscopy are considered. The formal classification of these damages is discussed.

Columnar galls on Platimeliphyllum snatolense N. Maslova (Angiospermae) leaves from the Upper Paleocene of Western Kamchatka Peninsula

D. V. Vasilenko; N. P. Maslova

A type of damage to fossil Platimeliphyllum snatolense N. Maslova leaves, fusiform galls attached to the lower surface of leaves, is described. This type of damage is new to the Late Paleocene plant communities. Classification and interpretation of columnar galls are discussed.

A New Genus and Species of the Damselfly Family Hemiphlebiidae from the Lower Cretaceous Chernovskie Kopi Locality (Eastern Transbaikalia)

A. S. Felker; D. V. Vasilenko

Thairia transbaikalica Felker et Vasilenko, gen. et sp. nov. (Odonata, Hemiphlebiidae) from the Mesozoic Chernovskie Kopi locality is described. A short review of known genera of Hemiphlebiidae is provided. Relative age of enclosing rocks is discussed.

First Fossil Xiphosuran (Chelicerata, Xiphosura) Egg Clutch from the Carboniferous of Khakassia

E. S. Shpinev; D. V. Vasilenko

A new formal genus with a new species Xiphosuroides khakassicus gen. et sp. nov. is established for a clutch of nine eggs containing embryos, presumably xiphosurans (Chelicerata, Xiphosura, Bellinurina). This unique specimen comes from the Lower–Middle Carboniferous Sarskaya Formation of Khakassia (Izykhskie Kopi locality). If the hypothesis of the xiphosuran nature of these eggs is correct, the specimen described in this paper is the first certain record of fossil xiphosuran eggs and embryos.

Galls on the Compositiphyllum retinerve (Herman) Herman et Kvaček leaves (angiosperms) from the Turonian of the Northwestern Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia

D. V. Vasilenko; N. P. Maslova; Alexei B. Herman

A new gall species, Paleogallus kamchaticus, from the Turonian of the Northwestern Kamchatka Peninsula (Russia), located on Compositiphyllum retinerve (Herman) Herman et Kvaček leaves, is described. The gall-forming process and basic principles of fossil galls classification are discussed.
