AbstractThis study aims to discover the relations between physical activities of the elderly and their health-related quality of life. For the study, it targeted 720 of the 778 elderly persons whose ages were above 65 for a final analysis except 58 whose physical activities and health-related quality of life could not be evaluated from the data of the first year of the 4th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES Ⅳ-1), 2007.As a result, it was discovered that there were significant differences in the elderlys health-related quality of life according to age, education, sleeping hours, stress, the number of chronic diseases and subjective awareness of health. In particular, there were significant differences in their health-related quality of life between the group with high physical activity level and the group with low physical activity level. Based on the results above, it is suggested that the persons with higher performance ability of physical activities can have higher quality of living along with increase of energy and further studies dealing with more factors, ranges and periods are needed.

【This study was conducted to examine the effects of the lumbar stabilization exercise (LSE) on fall prevention in elderly females (n = 21) by measuring changes in the isometric strength, multifidus, transverse abdominis muscle thickness, and posture stability index. The strength of isometric contraction was measured by the 3-D Pegasus system ; the thickness of the multifidus and transverse abdominis were measured by using Sonoace 6000C, and the posture stability index was measured using a computerized Biodex Balance System SD apparatus analysis. These results lead us to the conclusion that flexion and extension, left rotation on strength of isometric contraction, and thickness of the transverse abdominis (when released) statically increased. Overall, the anterior/posterior and medial/lateral elements in the posture stability index statically decreased, Consequently, the LSE should the prevent falls in elderly females.】

This study examines the effects of spasticity, equilibrium and gait ability at lower extremity on lumbar stabilization exercise(LSE) with Swiss ball. This experiment was conducted to compare BBS, FRT, MAS and TUG by Swiss ball LSE with 34 stroke patients. equilibrium by BBS or FRT, spasticity by MAS and gait ability by TUG were measured after a 8-week traditional exercise physical therapy(17 subject of stroke patient) and a Swiss ball LSE(17 subject of stroke patient). These result lead us to the conclusion that BBS & FRT were statistically increased and MAS and TUG were decreased on Swiss ball LSE group. there were statistically differential effect between each group on FRT and MAS. These results suggest that Swiss ball LSE has the capability to improve spasticity, equilibrium and gait ability at lower extremity. Consequently, Swiss ball LSE would be lead to restoration of muscle spasticity, equilibrium and gait ability on stroke patients.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effects of thigh muscle fatigue caused by walking in a squatted position on biomechanical factors, to evaluate the risk of a job performed sitting in a squatted position for a long period of time. [Subjects and Methods] Eighteen right foot dominant women without any injuries in their joints and body in the last 6 months were selected. They walked in a squatted position, and then muscle fatigue was induced by using an isokinetic muscular function measuring device (CSMI, USA). After the CSMI measurement, the participants performed walking in a squatted position again. [Results] After inducing thigh muscle fatigue, the knee joint maximum adduction moment significantly increased and the required duration was reduced. The muscle fatigue index was positively correlated with adduction moment and negatively with the duration. It influenced the changes of maximum adduction moment; 55.0% of the adduction moment change was explained by the degree of fatigue. [Conclusion] A quantitative analysis of working in a squatted position was performed. The thigh muscle fatigue index negatively the knee joint during walking in a squatted position. Therefore, this experiment can be used as an ergonomic analysis tool of general farm work.

This study conducted the following experiment to examine change of physicopsychological function on Dynamic Trunk Control Exercise(3D-DTCE) and Static Trunk Control Exercise (STCE) to chronic low back pain patients subject for lumbago therapy and management. Physical function was measured by equlibrium and lumbar muscle activities and psychological function was measured by self-efficacy on comparative analysis of pre, post exercise and each groups in 30 lumbago patient subject. Equlibrium was measured by total, front back and left right sway index, lumbar muscle activities were measured by abdominal rectus and oblique abdominalis, erector spinae and self efficacy with lumbago patients was measured index of self efficacy. These result lead us to the conclusion that each group were statistically improved at all physicopsychological test. but equlibrium and lumbar muscle activities were more statistically improved at DTCE group and self efficacy with lumbago patients were not differanced on each group. Consequently, DTCE would be lead to positive increment of physical function more than STCE.
