Flight schedule design for a charter airline

We consider the problem of designing the flight schedule for a charter airline. Exploiting the network structure of the problem, we develop exact and approximate models and solution approaches, and compare their results using data provided by an airline. We show that quality results can be generated using the exact approach or the heuristic approach, with the heuristic approach capable of generating good solutions very quickly.

Inventory allocation and shipping when demand temporarily exceeds production capacity

We address the concept of an integrated inventory allocation and shipping model for a manufacturer with limited production capacity and multiple types of retailers with different backorder/waiting and delivery costs. The problem is to decide how to allocate and deliver produced items when the total retailer demand exceeds the production capacity, so that total retailer backorder and delivery costs are minimized. Our analytical model provides optimal allocation and shipping policies from the manufacturer’s viewpoint. We also investigate the allocation strategy of a manufacturer competing with other retailers to directly sell to end consumers.

자동차 산업에서 생산과 물류의 동기화를 통한 현대글로비스의 성공 사례: 현대기아차그룹의체코와 슬로바키아 자동차 공장을 중심으로

현대기아차그룹의 계열회사인 현대글로비스는 자동차 전문 물류회사로서 현대-기아차의 국내 및 해외 사업의 전 범위의 물류업무를 대행하고 있다. 현대글로비스의 우수한 물류 운영 능력은 현대자동차 그룹이 짧은 기간에 글로벌 자동차회사로 급성장할 수 있는 원동력이 되었다. 이 논문에서는 자동차 산업의 이해를 통해 자동차 전문 물류업체의 중요성에 대해 살펴보았다. 또한, 체코와 슬로바키아 공장을 중심으로 자동차 물류 분야에서 현대글로비스의 핵심 성공 요인을 도출하였다. 첫째 KD 수출 및 현지 조달을 통한 해외 공장의 성공적 부품 조달이고, 둘째 서열공급(Just-in-sequence)으로 대표되는 생산과 물류의 동기화 구축이다. 이를 통해 재고의 감축은 물론, 생산라인의 안정적인 운영 또한 확보되었다. 마지막으로 통합부품물류센터 중심의 조달물류 체계 구축을 통해 부품의 조달, 재고 관리, 생산라인의 투입까지 전 과정을 통합 운영하였다.
