Das quartare Stereozentrum an C7 einer Vorstufe der Titelverbindungen konnte durch Addition des von Trost beschriebenen Ylids an 1 aufgebaut werden. Dies und eine Photooxidation, die die Maleinsaureanhydrid-Einheit liefert, sind zwei weitere wichtige Schritte fur die Totalsynthese der beiden Verbindungen.
