Computed tomography (CT) is used in several clinical dentistry applications even by axial slices and two and three-dimensional reconstructed images (2D-CT and 3D-CT). The purpose of the current study is to assess the precision of linear measurements made in 3D-CT using craniometric patterns for individual identification in Forensic Dentistry. Five cadaver heads were submitted to a spiral computed tomography using axial slices, and 3D-CT reconstructions were obtained by volume rendering technique with computer graphics tools. Ten (10) craniometric measurements were determined in 3D-CT images by two examiners independently, twice each, and the standard error of intra- and inter-examiner measurements was assessed. The results demonstrated a low standard error of those measurements, from 0.85% to 3.09%. In conclusion, the linear measurements obtained in osseous and soft tissue structures were considered to be precise in 3D-CT with high imaging quality and resolution.

Bioethics learning has mainly being developed in classroom activities. Without pretending to substitute this classical face to face model, bioethics discipline, taught to first year students at day and night courses in Dentistry Department of Sao Paulo University, has been complemented by supervised visits to Department Clinics, as well as on line studies using Moodle platform. In this study students’ records of discussion forums in Moodle platform in 2008 were evaluated to verify their perception about the proposal of supervised visits to clinical practice during their learning process. 71 of 100 students who published comments in discussion forums accepted to participate in the study. This is a qualitative study carried out by thematic content analysis. Students’ perceptions about clinical practice allow professors to enhance their practice as pedagogical strategy for future classes and this may serve as model for other institutions.

Objective: This study debates the meaning of the curricular changes at Sao Paulo State University Dental School and the contribution of faculty for the comprehensive education of undergraduate students. Material and Methods: A qualitative study was made through ethnographic analysis and thematic content analysis. Data collection consisted in participantobservation, documentary data. Results: Analysis of the activities allow concluding that great advances have been perceived from this process of curricular changes like faculty pedagogical qualification, diversification of practice scenario, and reorganization of clinical education. But, one of the most important considerations from the process was to regain the interest in undergraduate education by academic community. Conclusion: In order to achieve a comprehensive dental education extending the same approach to patient care it is necessary to have the involvement of all institution. That will occur through the curricular changes and participation of all faculty members, who must become involved themselves in the process of humanistic, social and ethical education of the undergraduate students.
