Technology Enhanced Learning for Humanities by Active Learning − the Sinus Project Approach

Abstract The paper presents an approach to active learning facilitated by the use of semantic technologies. Some features of active learning and understanding of learning in humanities are discussed. The specifics of a well defined learning task - learner’s authoring of analytical materials, grounded by materials from a digital library - are analyzed to shape the functionality of experimental Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) environment with a built-in domain and pedagogical knowledge. The environment structure and realization are discussed and a learning example is presented.

Development of Lexico-Grammar Resources for Natural Language Generation (Experience from AGILE Project)

The paper discuses some problems of presentation and processing of linguistic knowledge, needed for the development of real-size Bulgarian linguistic resource to be used in a multilingual text generation system, covering software manuals sublanguage. The sublanguage volume is specified by corpus analysis. The text generation is based on the Systemic Functional Linguistics theory. A method for developing lexico-grammar resources by re-using an existing resource for another language is described and illustrated with three examples.

MODELING OF MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC KNOWLEDGE AND REASONING IN DEDEX EXPERT SYSTEM

The paper presents a brief description of a frame-like knowledge representation scheme and a hypotheses driven inference strategy with corresponding control scheme, aimed at modeling of physicians diagnostic reasoning. Both representation and inference schemes are developed for and implemented in DEDEX expert system for diagnostic of schooling skills development disorders.
