When understanding the effect of the morphology of coarse aggregate on the properties of a fresh concrete mixture, the strength and deformability of self-compacting high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete (SCHPFRC) can be seen to be critical for its performance. In this research, regular and irregular grains were separated from granite coarse aggregate. The morphology of these grains was described while using digital image analysis. As a result, the aspect ratio, roundness and area ratio were determined in order to better understand this phenomenon. Then, the principal rheological, physical, and mechanical properties of SCHPFRC were determined. The obtained results indicated that the morphology of the grains of coarse aggregate has an impact on the strength and stiffness properties of SCHPFRC. Moreover, significant differences in the transverse strain of concretes were observed. The morphology of the coarse aggregate also has an impact on the rheological parameters of a fresh concrete mixture. To better understand this phenomenon, the hypothesized mechanism of the formation of SCHPFRC caused by different morphology of coarse aggregate was proposed at the end of the article.

Assessment of Material Solutions of Multi-level Garage Structure Within Integrated Life Cycle Design Process

Daniel Wałach; Joanna Sagan; Magdalena Gicala

The paper presents an environmental and economic analysis of the material solutions of multi-level garage. The construction project approach considered reinforced concrete structure under conditions of use of ordinary concrete and high-performance concrete (HPC). Using of HPC allowed to significant reduction of reinforcement steel, mainly in compression elements (columns) in the construction of the object. The analysis includes elements of the methodology of integrated lice cycle design (ILCD). By making multi-criteria analysis based on established weight of the economic and environmental parameters, three solutions have been evaluated and compared within phase of material production (information modules A1-A3).

Impact of the Research Conditions on the Accuracy of the Designation of High Performance Concrete Strength Parameters

Daniel Wałach

Abstract The article presents research results of the strength parameters of HPC achieved in various research conditions. The research was carried out on substantially different samples, both as to the size as the slenderness ratio. Moreover, the assessment of the effect of speed of a load on strength parameters as well as other factors which in a significant way show the difference in the strength values was made. For comparison, the results were also applied to the relations known in ordinary concrete.

Technical Note: Example of the Application of Jet Grouting to the Neutralisation of Geotechnical Hazard in Shaft Structures

Piotr Dybeł; Daniel Wałach; Justyna Jaskowska-Lemańska

Abstract The article presents a geotechnical hazard neutralisation technology for shaft structures. The diagnosis of problems with uncontrolled subsidence of the ventilation duct provided by the authors enabled the development of a schedule of works required for the protection and reinforcement of foundation soil in the shaft area. The technology of protection works was selected after the analysis of the technical condition of shaft structures as well as hydrological and geomechanical conditions. Due to the closeness of the shaft lining, it was necessary to form grout columns using jet grouting and low-pressure grouting technologies. The article presents the issues related to the selected technology and its application to the neutralisation of the emergent geotechnical hazard. The method of performance of recommended works was also described together with their impact on the technical condition of structures discussed as well as their functionality and usage.

Selected issues concerning reconstruction of the palace complex in Gorzanow

Justyna Jaskowska-Lemańska; Daniel Wałach; Alicja Siatka

The paper discusses an assessment of the technical condition of the historic Palace Complex in Gorzanow, and the reasons behind the damage incurred to its structure. The research has been carried out by the authors. The article presents the scope of implemented repair work intended to secure the building against further degradation, as well as a work plan that would make it possible to fully reconstruct the most valuable qualities of the palace in Gorzanow. The primary focus of the article has been applied to technical and organisational issues, regarding an ambitious endeavour to restore the building in question to full functionality and serviceability.
