We present a methodology for eGovernment project planning that uses a multidisciplinary approach. The set of expertises needed for the design of eGovernment systems is wide and ranges from social to juridical, economic, organizational, and technological perspectives, which have to be faced in a unique vision. The methodology has three phases: state reconstruction, assessment, and strategic planning. Our aim is to bring out a number of issues, which are currently challenging in many eGovernment projects, through an integrated approach. In this paper we focus on socio-organizational and technological aspects. A case study provides evidence of the feasibility and effectiveness of the methodology.

In this paper we present a methodology supporting the planning of eGovernment services on the basis of the appropriateness of the services for the users. Appropriateness is a boundary concept, defining the line of visibility involved in service provision. Besides appropriateness, the concept of homology of the system helps to grasp the tangle between socio-cultural and technical issues. The methodology, indeed, allows the design of service aiming to (a) enhance the users capabilities and (b) fulfill planned target objectives. To these ends, the paper introduces the Scenery and Context Indicators (SCI) tool for eGovernment projects evaluation. An example of SCI application is discussed, considering the dependencies between social and technological systems.

The chapter is based on an ethnographic research on migrant women’s associations in Andalusia, Spain, and explores the lived experiences and practices of citizenship enacted by the participants to the associations. Drawing on the concept of “intimate citizenship”, the focus is on women’s family, personal and intimate lives, as dimensions that contribute to shaping their experience of inclusion or exclusion from citizenship. The empirical analysis entails an intersectional perspective; it shows the power of the institutional and structural context in binding migrant’s choices concerning family and intimate relationships, as well as women’s strategies to copy with this frame and enlarge their opportunities to self-determination, though individual and collective action.

Abstract This paper examines how male violence against women is represented in Italian advertisements. It focuses on the recent developments in social and commercial campaigns, showing their connection to broader changes in the public discourse on gender-based violence. The analysis builds on the assumption that effective social advertising should promote a paradigm shift to reflect the complexity of the phenomenon and encourage a different social perception of it. Gender-based violence is a symptom of the cultural order that moulds our gender identities and our intimate relationships. Only those campaigns capable of going beyond the symptoms to reveal the ingrained set of cultural norms that legitimize male violence can be effective. Today the pictures of bruised faces are so embedded in our everyday imaginary that they are almost invisible. It is only by questioning these practices that we will grasp the roots of male violence and develop strategies to stop it.
