The heavy ion cooler-storage-ring project (HIRFL-CSR) at Lanzhou

HIRFL-CSR, a new ion Cooler-Storage-Ring (CSR) project, is the post-acceleration system of the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL). It consists of a main ring (CSRm) and an experimental ring (CSRe). From the HIRFL cyclotron system the heavy ions will be accumulated, cooled and accelerated in the CSRm, then extracted fast to produce radioactive ion beams (RIB) or highly charged heavy ions. Those secondary beams will be accepted and stored by the CSRe for many internal-target experiments with electron cooling.

A Progress Report of 320 kV Multi-discipline Research Platform for Highly Charged Ions

A dedicated platform for multi-disciplinary research with highly charged ions has been constructed, and an all-permanent magnet ECR ion source was built and installed in the beamline. Five experimental terminals are established for interdisciplinary Research. The high voltage supplied to the platform has reached 320 kV. The commissioning of the platform is successful, different ion beams have been provided for experimental studies, and the current status will be reported.

HIRFL-CSR, the project that was proposed to upgrade the HIRFL facility, is a multifunctional Cooling Storage Ring (CSR) system, consisting of a main ring (CSRm) and an experimental ring (CSRe). The heavy ion beams from the HIRFL will be injected, accumulated, cooled and accelerated to high energy in the CSRm, then fast-extracted to produce radioactive ion beams (RIB), highly-charged stage ions, or slow-extracted to do experiment. The secondary beams will be accepted by CSRe and used for internal-target experiments of the high sensitive and high precision spectroscopy with cool beam. CSR project was started in end of 1999 and finish in the end of 2004. The period from beginning of 2000 to the summer of 2001 is the time for the building construction, fabrication design, prototype experiments. In this paper, the outline and status of the project will be reported.

HIRFL-CSR power supply system

There are more than 200 power supplies will be employed in CSR power supply system. These power supplies provide DC and pulsed exciting current for all magnets in main ring (CSRm), experiment ring (CSRe), injection line of CSRm and RIB line. Six small-scale prototypes have been designed and made before formal manufacture. One thyristor rectifier pulsed converter was delivered to Lanzhou in January and all measurement has been finished in April. The result is satisfied.
