Analysis of the prospectives of intermodal transport and logistics centres in Lithuania

Ramūnas Palšaitis; Darius Bazaras

Abstract It is identified that the creation of regional logistics centres in Lithuania is one of the main measures of the improvement of transport‐related infrastructure in the country. These centres will be the first public Logistics Centres in Lithuania established according to contemporary requirements and will provide necessary co‐operation with big trading companies and other logistics centres in and outside Europe. Transport Corridors No I and No IX must be very important because Logistics Centres in Lithuania will have a significant impact on the business linked to separate regions and to the whole country. The benefits deriving from an increase of international multimodal transit traffic will be also related to the complementary and boosting activities of logistic services associated with the development of logistics centres network in Lithuania.

Darius Bazaras; Alina Verseckienė; Ramūnas Palšaitis

Abstract The main objective of the paper is to analyze some aspects of organising new paratransit services in Vilnius. The main presented scientific problem is the creation of a new transportation system integrating it into the existing one. The system in Vilnius is not well adapted to people with disabilities, and therefore special transportation services for people having impaired physical mobility do not meet the requirements established for paratransit services. To solve this problem, an objective of researching demand for new services in Vilnius, the impact of such service for the whole transport system and potential problems that could arise during the organisation and installation of new services have been set. In order to create such system, one needs to know the values of specific parameters identified with the help of an expert survey. Scientific literature and information obtained from the expert survey allow making a conclusion that new paratransit services are required and can be integrated i...

Training and education is objectively at the meeting point between research, technological and organisational systems. In such conditions the objective of the education on logistics is to offer the customers the best possible service in the field of the transfer of knowledge in harmony with the trend in logistics programme development. The main problems and perspectives of logistics education and training process are discussed in this article.
