Abstract With the growth of information technologies in the field of construction industry, the concept of CAD (Computer Aided Design), which denotes just design operations using a computer acquires a new meaning and changes the contents lightening design process based on product modelling and further numerical simulation construction process and facility managing. New definitions as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) are more and more usable as the definition of a new way approaching the design and documentation managing of building projects. The presented computer aided design technology based on the concept of graphical ‐ information modeling of a building, is combined with resource demand calculations, comparison of alternatives and determination of duration of all the stages of investment project life. The software based on this combined 4D PLM model is to be created as a means to manage effectively the investment project, starting from planning, designing, ec...

The major problem for investors in construction area is to choose the financially effective construction alternative, most often associated with underestimated actual demand for resources. The lack of information feedback among all participants of the project and the uncertainty treats at the design and construction stages are presented in this paper. Solution is the theoretical 3D building information model, combined with resource demand calculations, comparison of alternatives and determination the duration of all construction project life stages. The software based on this aggregate 4D PLM model can be the mean of effective management of the construction project, embracing planning, design, economic calculations, construction, management, usage and maintenance of the completed building. The paper also describes multiple criteria evaluation software used to identify the most effective construction alternative with presented suggestions of implementation in practice.

Abstract Knowledge on construction project management is a key issue in todays construction industry across Europe. This applies to the whole range of project participants from inception to conclusion of construction undertakings thereby involving professionals focusing in distinct perspectives yet working for a common goal. Several countries in Europe, with special relevance to the UK, have developed substantial knowledge in this topic through academic courses, professional training and experience of practitioners. Other countries have not achieved this stage but the need to prepare professionals to work in the open European market is impelling efforts for convergence in this matter. This article reports a survey on professional training needs in four European countries presently partnering in a Leonardo da Vinci project on management of construction infrastructure projects. The survey was carried by a questionnaire administered to a set of organisations of the construction cluster of the four countries...

In construction, the selection of effective construction alternatives is based on decision according to technological and economical analysis. The choice and analysis must be made independent of any preferences or interests and must be supported by a precise calculation of significant criteria such as economic benefit, workability of alternatives and investments. The comparison of normalised dimensionless criteria values, using particular optimal solution methods, is one of the basic stages in evaluation process. Therefore, normalisation method must be chosen according to the objectives so as to meet special requirements, with regard to possible inaccuracy or uncertainty threats and influence on the final ranking of the alternatives or even the final decision.

AbstractDifferent optimization methods generate a large variety of solutions that are suitable for achieving the sets of chosen objectives. The selection of appropriate design variables and objective functions are essential elements in the optimization process. However, the existing methodologies seem to be too complicated and designers seek to use simplified methods in order to evaluate the overall performance of the buildings. The advancement of information technology enables the use of Building Information Modelling and energy simulation tools for the integrated building design in an early stage. Thus, this article introduces a new evaluation method for analysis of the effective solution of the building performance and aims at determining the influence of a complex criteria (construction duration, construction cost, annual bill-based costs, annual primary energy demand, annual CO2 emissions of energy use, CO2 emissions of construction materials and works, thermal comfort) for the final decision making....

AbstractModern constructions, either private houses or public buildings, nowadays must be built meeting all the requirements of the European Union [EU] standards and must be highly energy efficient. Still, there are a lot of old inefficient buildings with high energy costs that require renovation. These buildings can be renovated applying a passive house model that helps to minimize buildings’ heating and cooling energy expenses. Moreover, the decisions made in the stages of early design and preconstruction are essential for the sustainability in a building facility. It is possible to perform various analyses with Building Information Modeling (BIM) in order to have an optimized sustainable building design. BIM system can be used to evaluate and control the costs (e.g. renovation, efficiency) as well as to monitor the conditions during the life-cycle of the building.

AbstractThe main aim of analysis presented in this paper is based on the complex evaluation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) application and decision support in reconstruction projects. The reconstruction projects face the high level uncertainty during implementation mostly due inappropriate information management, insufficient quality control and low competence of participants. The application of advanced Computer-Aided tools such as BIM uses both with advanced Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can be the way to solve the problems of reconstruction projects. The fourteen reconstruction projects have been analysed and the list of thirteen main problems has been identified. The pair wise judgment of problems has been made based on in the expert survey using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The occurrence, influence to project and significance of the problems have been calculated and were prioritised according to the importance and consequences. After the complex analysis o...
