Adam Stroiński; Dariusz Świerczewski

This paper revises an extraordinary Madagascan genus Urana Melichar, 1902, with two species Urana paradoxa Melichar, 1902 and Urana unica sp. nov. The genus represents the tribe Selizini of the subfamily Flatinae. Additionally, distribution of the genus is discussed.

The first records of the Nearctic treehopper Stictocephala bisonia in Poland (Hemiptera: Cicadomorpha: Membracidae) with some comments on this potential pest

Dariusz Świerczewski; Adam Stroiński

The first records of the Nearctic treehopper Stictocephala bisonia in Poland (Hemiptera: Cicadomorpha: Membracidae) with some comments on this potential pest Stictocephala bisonia Kopp et Yonke, 1977 has been recorded for the first time in three localities in Poland. This is a Nearctic species introduced into Europe at the beginning of the 20th century and has expanded its range ever since. We briefly characterize this new treehopper and provide a key to the identification of the Polish species of Membracidae.

Kirkamflata, a New Planthopper Genus from Socotra Island (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae)

Dariusz Świerczewski; Igor Malenovský; Adam Stroiński

Abstract. The paper describes a new genus of the Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae, Kirkamflata gen. nov., and a new species K. socotrana sp. nov. from the Hagher Mountains in central Socotra island (Yemen). Habitus, external morphology, male and female terminalia and internal genital structures of the new species are illustrated. The new genus is similar to Latois Stål, 1866 in head morphology, wing shape and venation, male and female terminalia but differs in a rudimentary median carina on pronotum and mesonotum, longer apical cells of tegmen and details of the male reproductive parts: style, periandrium, aedeagus, as well as female ones: gonapophysis VIII and diverticulum ductus.

Planthopper (Hemiptera: Flatidae) parasitized by larval erythraeid mite (Trombidiformes: Erythraeidae)-a description of two new species from western Madagascar.

Joanna Mąkol; Hanna Moniuszko; Dariusz Świerczewski; Adam Stroiński

ABSTRACT. Descriptions of Dambullaeus adonis Mąkol et Moniuszko sp. nov. (Trombidiformes: Erythraeidae, Callidosomatinae) and Latois nigrolineata Świerczewski et Stroiński sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha, Flatidae) from Madagascar are provided. The first host record for ectoparasitic larvae of Dambullaeus Haitlinger, 2001 and the first evidence on host-parasite association between flatid adult and erythraeid larvae are given. Genus Dambullaeus, known exclusively from larvae and now comprising two species of Gondwanan distribution, is critically reappraised.

Adam Stroiński; Dariusz Świerczewski

Madoxychara unicornis gen. et sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae) is described and illustrated from Madagascar.

A New Species of Phlebopterum Stål, 1854 (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae) from the Tapia Woodlands of Madagascar

Dariusz Świerczewski; Adam Stroiński

Abstract. A new species of the family Flatidae (Sisciini) Phlebopterum tapiae sp. nov. from Madagascar is described and illustrated. Additionally, environmental affinities of newly described species are discussed. A key to all Madagascan Phlebopterum Stål species is also provided.

Planthoppers and leafhoppers of the Przedborski Landscape Park (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha et Cicadomorpha)

Dariusz Świerczewski; Adam Stroiński

Planthoppers and leafhoppers of the Przedborski Landscape Park (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha et Cicadomorpha) Faunistic research on planthoppers and leafhoppers was carried out in 2009 at 20 collecting sites located in the central part of the Przedborski Landscape Park. Insects were sampled using a standard sweep-net during the growing season from May until September. A total of 663 specimens representing 101 species were collected, which constitute about 19% of the Polish planthopper and leafhopper fauna. Zygina lunaris (Mulsant et Rey, 1855) was recorded in Poland for the first time. Additional localities for rare species such as Eurybregma nigrolineata Scott, 1875, Balcanocerus larvatus (Herrich-Schäffer, 1837), Eupteryx adspersa (Herrich-Schäffer, 1838), Zygina schneideri (Günthart, 1974), Metalimnus steini (Fieber, 1869), Diplocolenus bohemani (Zetterstedt, 1840) and Erzaleus metrius (Flor, 1861) are also given.

Socoflata gen. nov., described for two new planthopper species from the mountains in Socotra island (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae)

Adam Stroiński; Igor Malenovský; Dariusz Świerczewski

A new genus of flatid planthoppers (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae) is described from the island of Socotra (Yemen): Socoflata gen. nov., for S. aurolineata sp. nov. and S. histrionica sp. nov. (type species). Habitus, male and female external and internal genital structures of the new species are illustrated and diagnosed. Both Socoflata species are abundant and syntopic in the evergreen montane woodland and dwarf shrubland at high elevations in the Hagher mountains in central Socotra and are likely endemics of this area.
