In this article a method for developing an optimal tree path of a heating system is proposed. Based on the simplex optimisation method, the mathematical model, consisting of the non-linear objective function and the system of non-linear equations for the hydraulic limitations, is solved by a computer programme. The investment and running expenses are evaluated by a capitalised value method. The optimisation of the district heating system with 24 nodes and 33 pipe sectors is processed on a real network case study.

This paper proposes a mathematical model underlying a computer program for determining the type of two-phase flow, the values of characteristic parameters and pressure drops in pipe sections, which are vital for optimal design and for processing pipe networks for the transport of two-phase mixtures. The equations, which describe the physical flow-pressure conditions through every cross point, are assumed to be continuous and the energy of every closed loop of analyzed network conserved. The system of equations is of nonlinearity, and the solution is solved based on linearization with the linear theory method (LTM).
