The decrease of the hole mobility in a molecularly doped polymer at high electric-fields

G. Verbeek; M. Van der Auweraer; F. C. De Schryver; C. Geelen; David Richard Terrell; S. De Meuter

Abstract The hole mobility in polycarbonate doped with 17% of a triphenlaminobenzene derivative decreases as the electric field increases above 1 × 10 6 V/cm. It was possible to fit the mobility data to the expression derived by Marcus, relating the free energy of hole transfer to the free activation energy of this process, with the hopping distance ( r ), reorganization energy (λ) and k 0 , the hole transfer rate constant when Δ G 0 equals −λ, as adjustable parameters. Values of 2.7 nm, 0.33eV, 4.88×10 6 s −1 respectively, were obtained for these parameters.

The Saturation of the Drift Velocity of Holes at High

G. Verbeek; Fc Deschryver; C. Geelen; David Richard Terrell; S. De Meuter

Abstract The decrease of the hole mobility in polycarbonate doped with 17% of a triphenylaminobenzene derivative at electric fields exceeding 1.0 × 106 Vcm−1 is rationalized in the framework of the Marcus theory. By analysis of the mobility data in the framework of the expression, derived by Marcus and relating the free energy of election transfer to the free activation energy of this process, the average hopping distance, the reorganisation energy and the barrierless electron transfer rate constant could be obtained. In this way physical acceptable values, amounting to 2.7nm, 0.33eV, 4.88 × 106 s−1, were found for the respective parameters at room temperature.
