The Transition to Metro WDM Optical Meshes

David W. Jenkins; Dale A. Scholtens

The most cost effective transport for high bandwidth metro networks uses ROADM enabled DWDM technology, with ring based protection. With appropriate engineering early on, such networks can gracefully and cost effectively evolve to optical meshes.
