A compact low-cost Dielectric Loaded Antenna for Wi-Fi Access Point applications

Zhijiao Chen; Dean Kitchener; Clive Parini

A novel, compact, low-cost Dielectric Loaded Antenna is presented in this paper. This antenna not only has broadband (5-6 GHz), dual-polarization characteristics but, most importantly, offers high isolation between the two polarizations. In addition, with the symmetrical antenna structure and anti-phase feed probes, the radiation pattern is symmetrical and directional with low cross-polarization. This provides a cost-efficient integration of an antenna for WLAN communication systems or future indoor BS front ends.

A novel method for modelling polarisation conversion

S. Wang; Dean Kitchener; Xiaodong Chen

Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems, characterized by multiple antenna elements at the transmitter and receiver, have demonstrated the potential for increased capacity in rich multipath environments. However, the performance of a MIMO link is very much dependent on the radio channel characteristics and the antenna design at the base station and the mobile terminal. This paper presents a stochastic model which is developed for modelling the polarisation conversion in MIMO channels by using the Poincare method for representing polarisation states on a sphere.
